Alix Kelso On The 5 Things You Need to Know to Become a Great Author
Being a writer isn’t easy, but nothing in life that’s worth anything ever is.
As part of my interview series on the five things you need to know to become a great author, I had the pleasure of interviewing Alix Kelso.
Alix Kelso is a romance author based in Scotland. After making the switch from writing academic papers to self-publishing novels on Kindle Direct Publishing, Alix is now a full-time author whose book Hopes and Dreams on Foxglove Street has been shortlisted for the 2024 Kindle Storyteller Award, out of thousands of entries. The winner will be announced at a ceremony in London by judges, broadcasters and authors Sara Cox and Vick Hope.
Thank you so much for joining us! Can you share a story about what brought you to this particular career path?
As an avid reader all my life, I always imagined becoming a novelist one day. However, I also loved my time at university studying history and politics, and after graduating with a PhD, I pursued an academic career, which I adored. I kept writing fiction in my spare time though, and I knew that if I didn’t try to get published, I’d always wonder what might have been. Eventually, I took the big leap.
