Author And Researcher John Hattie On 5 Things You Need To Know To Be A Highly Effective Educator or Teacher

In our new book “10 Steps To Develop Great Learners”, my son, Kyle Hattie, and I argue that it is less what parents do, but how they think about what they do, that has the greatest impact on the learning lives of their children. We argue parents should not see themselves as ‘first teachers’ but as ‘first learners’ as how they learn is often mimicked by their children. Learning to cope with adversity, seeing failure as a learner’s best friend, realizing that struggle is an opportunity to learn. We talk about the importance of listening, of ensuring feedback is heard, understood, and actionable, how to choose pre- and schools, talk with teachers, and how to create a learning environment in the home.
