First, remember that you’re already a talented leader! You’ve led through and made thousands of changes up to this point, and so have the people around you. I guarantee you’re already doing things that work, which is why you’re in a leadership role in the first place. What else makes you an expert? Experiencing what doesn’t work. I also guarantee you’ve been on the receiving end of bad change leadership, which is basically just bad leadership. Remember those experiences? Most likely, none of the leaders who practiced bad change leadership in your past intended to do so…they might have been just too busy, unclear, or unskilled themselves. But they taught you something through what they lacked, showing you what to avoid.
