Authority Magazine Snapshots: News Anchor Mary Kate Gaffney

Mary Kate is a News Anchor and Digital Producer currently residing in Los Angeles. She worked her way through college managing the social media of 11 companies. Discovering a knack for creating digital content and public speaking, Mary Kate was hired as the Social Media/Entertainment Reporter for several fox and ABC affiliates. She also helped launch FOX News’ first digital show in Phoenix.

Can you share with us the funniest story of your carer?

I always had a twitter handle with the station I was working for in it. I’ve had @MaryKateFOX” and @MaryKateABC” but I wanted to change it to my own name. When I went to create “MaryKateGaffney”, I noticed it was already taken. I looked her up and noticed that not only did we have the same name, but we looked a lot alike! To my surprise, her Twitter bio said in all caps: “I AM NOT THE FOX NEWS GIRL” which I thought was so funny. I quickly realized people were confusing her with me and tweeting her their opinions about politics, entertainment, or whatever it was that I was reporting that day. I tweeted her to tell her that I liked her bio because I thought it was hilarious. I’m sure she was very confused when she was getting tweets like “why didn’t you mention the new executive order today?” or “this police chase is crazy!”
