We’re programmed by evolution to crave a certain amount of stress. That’s why we like roller coasters and scary movies. The optimal level of stress feels good. What’s important is to maintain a good balance. To continue the metaphor I just used, feeling stressed helps us build our resilience “muscles.” Instead of skipping the gym altogether, do a set of heavy exercises, and then take a rest to let your intellectual muscles recuperate.
