Embrace assessments. When trying to determine the source of a medical problem, we typically do a variety of tests to get to the bottom of the issue. In the same way, well-written academic assessments can help teachers and parents create the most targeted interventions for students so they can get exactly the help they need. Some students realize late in life that they have dyslexia, ADHD, or executive function challenges, and then it becomes too late to secure the accommodations they may need for extended time on the ACT and SAT. The earlier that parents and teachers can assess what help a student needs, the greater the help that student will receive.
