Be kind to everyone, be cautious who you bring in. I have had personal experiences, and plenty of friends with similar experiences, around having the wrong people on your cap table. I’ve had to learn that there are some people you can be friends with — there are others you can do business with — and sometimes, you are lucky enough to find people you can do both with. Stepping into a business relationship with a friend prematurely can put the nature of the friendship at risk — you should only step into that arena if you have absolute confidence that the stresses, ups & downs of scaling a company won’t come at the expense of your friendship.
