Research who else is doing the work — who is doing it extremely well and who is solving the issues you are working to solve. There is no need to duplicate efforts that are already in existence. There is no reason to compete against each other. Find out if you are solving an issue in a unique and innovative way, and if you are not, then team up and put your resources into a pre-existing organization versus creating a new one.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Dawn L Brown, CEO of EmpowHer Institute.
Dawn L. Brown has 25 years of nonprofit management and consulting experience and has served as the Executive Director of three well-respected nonprofit organizations across California. In 2020 she joined the EmpowHer Institute team as President/CEO and has successfully grown fundraising, improved program delivery and expanded advocacy and policy efforts for girls from margianalized communities.
