As part of our series about healthcare leaders, I had the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Lana Rozenberg.

Dr. Lana Rozenberg is a renowned cosmetic dentist in New York City with over 25 years of experience, celebrated for pioneering the concept of “spa dentistry” at her Upper East Side practice, Rozenberg Dental NYC. With an educational background from the University of the Pacific Dental School and specialized training at New York University, she has distinguished herself in the field, particularly in implants and periodontics. Dr. Rozenberg is committed to enhancing patient confidence through innovative dental care and is recognized for her holistic, patient-centered approach. Beyond her practice, she advocates for greater female representation in the dental industry, cementing her status as a leader and mentor in cosmetic dentistry.

Thank you so much for joining us in this interview series. Before we begin, our readers would love to “get to know you” a bit better. Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I am a child of immigrant Jewish parents who came to this country to escape being persecuted in Russia and give us a better future. I am eternally grateful to my parents, who taught me everything and, at their numerous sacrifices, gave me an amazing future.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started your career?

I had a young patient walk into my office many years ago. He wanted to fix his teeth before an audition for a now-very-known TV series. He did not have the money to do it, so I fixed his teeth pro bono. He got the part in the show, and the rest, as they say, is history. To this day, he is still my patient.

Can you share a story about the funniest mistake you made when you were first starting? Can you tell us what lesson you learned from that?

When I just started practicing, I received a case from the dental laboratory for a patient who needed front upper veneers. I removed his temporary and started to put the veneers on, but they did not fit at all. After working for about an hour trying to fit them on, I read the name on the script, realizing it was not the right patient. So, the moral of the story is to read the patient’s name before inserting the work, and I never made that mistake again.

Are you working on any new or exciting projects now?

We have seen significant breakthroughs in 3D printing, digital impressions, laser dentistry, intraoral cameras, and AI. These technologies are making dental treatments more efficient, accurate, and less invasive, improving outcomes for patients and making dental care more comfortable and convenient. I will also be working with a new laser, an innovative technology from Israel, that will decrease grinding lessen tightness in masseter muscles, and tighten facial muscles.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story about that?

I am grateful to my parents for pushing me and guiding me in my career path. Unfortunately, my father passed away very young from pancreatic cancer, and I had to take over and help my mom run their dental practice on the weekends since she worked with my father as they were both dentists in practice together. His untimely death was a great shock and sorrow, and I needed to be her support. In time, she was able to practice by herself and was very happy until she retired almost 15 years later.

Is there a particular book that made an impact on you? Can you share a story?

Everything is Figurable by Marie Forleo. The book is highly regarded for its empowering and motivational message about overcoming challenges, pursuing goals, and embracing a mindset of possibility. The empowering Mindset encourages readers to adopt a growth mindset and believe in their ability to overcome obstacles, solve problems, and achieve success. The book emphasizes the power of resilience, creativity, and determination in navigating life’s challenges and pursuing one’s dreams. Marie Forleo provides practical strategies, tools, and techniques to help readers tackle difficult situations, make progress toward their goals, and take action toward creating the life they desire. The book offers actionable advice and inspirational anecdotes to guide readers on their journey to personal and professional fulfillment, and of course, its inspirational and has truly helped me in everyday life!

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

I donated my time and services to numerous charity organizations such as Operation Smile and Dress for Success throughout the years and, in the process, helped children and women.

Can you please give us your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story about how that was relevant to you in your own life?

One of my favorite life lesson quotes is, “In the end, we only regret the chances we didn’t take.” This quote serves as a reminder to seize opportunities, take risks, and embrace new experiences without fear of failure or regret. It speaks to embracing the opportunity, stepping out of your comfort zone, and exploring the possibilities that await you. I always try to take opportunities given to me even though it involves some risk. The best quote is no risk, no reward, and that is so true in life and career. I left my first job to buy my first practice just two years after graduating from dental school with the money I borrowed. I was scared of the unknown in the business and practice of dentistry, but I wanted to build my future, and I overcame my fear and dived in head first.

Can you share your top three “oral hygiene tweaks” that will help people look and feel great?

Brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste. Clean between teeth regularly, aiming for once a day. Use dental floss, a special brush, or a wooden or plastic pick recommended by a dental professional. You can also try a floss holder, floss threader, or water flosser and brush your tongue.

Ok thank you for all of that. Here is the main question of our interview. Based on your experience, what are your “5 Things You Need To Create A Successful Career As A Dentist” and why? (Please share a story or example for each.)

  1. Establish and respect your own vision and criteria for success. …
  2. Change to grow and keep a healthy life-work balance
  3. Treat every patient how you would want to be treated, go beyond customer service
  4. Provide the highest quality of care.
  5. Listen to your patients

If you could start a movement that would bring the most amount of wellness to the most amount of people, what would that be?

If I could start a movement to bring the most amount of wellness to the most amount of people, it would be centered around promoting mental health and emotional well-being. The movement would focus on destigmatizing mental health issues, raising awareness about the importance of mental wellness, and providing accessible resources and support for individuals in need. By championing mental health and emotional well-being through this movement, we can empower individuals to prioritize their mental wellness, seek help when needed, and build resilience in the face of life’s challenges. Together, we can create a culture of compassion, understanding, and support that promotes the holistic well-being of all individuals.

We are very blessed that some of the biggest names in Business, VC funding, Sports, and Entertainment read this column. Is there a person in the world, or in the US whom you would love to have a private breakfast or lunch with, and why? He or she might just see this if we tag them :-)

Yes, would love to have breakfast or lunch with Elon Musk. He is a prominent entrepreneur, inventor, and visionary known for his groundbreaking work in technology, space exploration, and renewable energy. He’s also widely recognized for his bold vision and ambitious goals, including the colonization of Mars, the transition to sustainable energy, and the advancement of artificial intelligence. Since he’s always pushing the boundaries of innovation and driving forward-thinking projects that have the potential to shape our future, it makes him one of the most forward-thinkers of our time, so I would love to pick his brain.
