Some writers and authors have a knack for using language that can really move people. Some writers and authors have been able to influence millions with their words alone. What does it take to become an effective and successful author or writer? Authority Magazine started an interview series, called “5 Things You Need To Be A Successful Author or Writer” where we spoke to successful authors and writers who shared lessons from their experiences. Some of the experts we interviewed put together some fantastic videos sharing their “five things.” Please enjoy these videos and interviews below.

Diana Holquist

Diana Holquist is the author of seven of her own books for publishers including Penguin Random House and Hachette. In addition, she has ghostwritten dozens of books for other authors, specializing in memoirs and business how-to. She is a graduate of Columbia University and currently lives near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with her husband and perhaps a few too many cats. You can find out more at her website.

Jill L. Ferguson, Creating the Freelance Career

Jill L. Ferguson is an award-winning writer, artist, consultant, and entrepreneur who is the author or co-author of 14 books under her own name and half a dozen more that have been ghostwritten. Through her company Creating the Freelance Career, she coaches people who want to be published authors through the book writing and publishing process and she works with entrepreneurs to start or grow their businesses.

Mike Trigg, author

For over 25 years, Mike has been a founder, executive, and investor in dozens of Silicon Valley technology start-ups. He turned that experience into a wickedly insightful and occasionally dark corporate thriller called Bit Flip, available August 16. Originally from Wisconsin. Mike earned a BA from Northwestern University before a short-lived stint in politics on Capitol Hill. He then moved to California where he received an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley. After his career in the tech industry, Mike pivoted to writing full-time. He lives in Menlo Park, California, with his wife and two teenage sons.

Gary Craig

Gary Craig is an investigative reporter at the Democrat and Chronicle who has authored one book and co-authored another. The first, “Seven Million: A Cop, A Priest, A Soldier for the IRA and the Still Unsolved Rochester Brink’s Heist,” is the partial foundation of the new discovery+ documentary, “Holy Heist.” Craig has won more than two dozen state, regional, and national awards for writing and investigative reporting, including for reporting on wrongful convictions.
