Cancer is a horrible and terrifying disease. Yet millions of people have beaten the odds and beat cancer. Authority Magazine started a new series called “I Survived Cancer and Here Is How I Did It.”

We interviewed dozens of cancer survivors to share their stories, in order to offer hope and provide strength to people who are being impacted by cancer today.

Some of the cancer survivors we interviewed put together some fantastic videos sharing their five tips. Please enjoy these videos and interviews below.

Sedruola Maruska, Sedruola Maruska Consulting

Sedruola Maruska is a social justice, equity, inclusion and diversity consultant and coach, host of the award-winning podcast Diversity Dish, speaker and aspiring author. Sedruola’s optimism is one of her top strengths so she uses it to help people discover their social justice “sweet spot”, and business owners cultivate cultures of equity and inclusion, so they attract the coveted diverse partnerships they’re missing.

Allen Chankowsky

Allen Chankowsky is a sales promotion marketing expert specializing in contest promotion strategy and execution. He is celebrating his 30-year survivorship of two types of cancer, including his stage-4 terminal diagnosis in 2016 where the chances of him surviving 5 years was less than 20 percent. Against all odds, through Allen’s hands-on approach fuelled by the love of his life Cynthia, they actively researched and managed his cancer resulting in him outliving his diagnosis and becoming an exceptional cancer survivor. In his highly anticipated book release, On the Other Side of TERMINAL, Allen shares his incredible 30-year story of survival that serves to inspire and teach others about the steps he took to achieve the state of radical remission. His goal is to help as many people as possible to do the same. Originally from Montreal, Allen lives in Toronto, Canada with his two children, Ethan and Hila and his girlfriend Cynthia and her two children Elena and Hayden. In his spare time, Allen can be found winning backgammon tournaments at the United States Backgammon Federation, where he won the Intermediate Division at the 2021 US Open.

Heidi Nafman Onda

Heidi Nafman-Onda is 58 years old and has been married to her high school sweetheart, Pierre, for 35 years. They live in Greenwood Village, Colorado, a suburb about 20 minutes southeast of Denver, and have 3 adult children ages 32, 28, and 25 who live across the country. She was diagnosed with stage 3A lung cancer in 2018.

Liz Benditt, The Balm Box

Liz Benditt is a 4-time cancer survivor. She is President and CEO of The Balm Box, a self-care and gifting site for breast cancer patients. In addition to teaching undergraduate business marketing courses at University of Kansas, Benditt also serves on the Education First Shawnee Mission board of directors, and volunteers with The Mainstream Coalition and National Charity League. She lives in the Kansas City suburbs with her husband and two children.

Jill Kleiss, Substitute Teacher

Jill Kleiss is the youngest child of Capt. Jack “Dusty” Kleiss, a Battle of Midway hero. She is a nationally published freelance writer, substitute elementary school teacher, and three-time survivor of Her-2 positive breast cancer. Jill lives in Pacific Grove, CA.
