Chloe: Say yes to everything when you are starting out! That was a big one for me. I never thought I would end up in Real Estate, I was very stuck on this idea of being a performer, but the second I started saying yes to things a lot of doors opened. I took that with me through the start of my career as well, there was no project that was too small, I just kept saying yes.

As a part of our series about women who are shaking things up in their industry, I had the pleasure of interviewing Chloe Tucker Caine and Romi Mouillon Jordan x Cain.

Chloe Tucker Caine is a powerhouse real estate agent, marketing expert, and media personality having reached over 21 Million viewers across her social platforms.

Originally from a fashion-focused family in Los Angeles, Chloe began her career starring on Broadway in Mamma Mia! before falling in love with the fast-paced world of real estate.

Known for her creativity, tenacity and consummate work ethic, Chloe continues to break records throughout the city for her luxury sales, rental, and new development clients.

A key member of the Chloe Tucker Caine Team, Romi Mouillon is a bi-coastal real estate expert who provides the highest degree of client service during each step of the buying and selling process. Licensed in California and New York with experience in luxury staging and commercial and residential properties, Romi’s approach to the client-agent relationship is based on honesty, patience, and integrity. She is attentive, creative, and solution-oriented, and she makes buying or selling a home feel seamless.

Romi transitioned to a career in real estate after spending several years traveling worldwide as part of the Salesforce CEO’s marketing team. She helps buyers balance logistical needs with investment potential, and sellers rely on her impeccable sense of design and vision for listing prep and marketing. She is also an excellent negotiator and has been involved in more than $250M in sales.

Thank you so much for doing this with us! Before we dig in, our readers would like to get to know you a bit more. Can you tell us a bit about your “backstory”? What led you to this particular career path?

Chloe: My background is in theater, I started performing from a young age in Los Angeles where I grew up, before starring in Mamma Mia!, around the country and on Broadaway. In between gigs, I started airbnbing my apartment to make extra money, and I fell in love with the freedom it brought, got my license, and have never looked back!

Romi: I studied business at UC Berkeley then landed a job at Salesforce where I spent several years traveling worldwide on the CEO’s marketing team. I absolutely loved it and became increasingly inspired by the beautiful architecture and design that I experienced during my travels. This eventually led me to delve into the world of real estate…I worked in commercial as well as luxury staging before discovering that residential real estate allows me to best combine my talents and passions!

Can you tell our readers what it is about the work you’re doing that’s disruptive?

We feel that traditional real estate marketing is boring, outdated and ineffective, and we’re here to change that! Successful marketing in this day and age is incredibly experiential, but real estate marketing hasn’t gotten there. That’s where we’ve come in…we don’t just sell you a condo, we are creating experiences that most naturally draws in the ideal buyer.

Can you share a story about the funniest mistake you made when you were first starting? Can you tell us what lesson you learned from that?

Oh man, too many to pick from!

One of the biggest (and hardest) lessons we have learned, especially as females in a very male-dominated industry, is how important it is to have everything (and we mean every damn little thing!!) agreed upon upfront and in writing. Although we love seeing the best in people, it is so crucial to advocate for yourself.

Romi: Truly no deal is ever the same, there is always a new curveball. 9Endless opportunities to learn from!

Chloe: Omg, totally. This business is really all about problem solving. Things always go wrong, it really keeps you on your toes. You just have to do your best, keep learning, and move on to the next task at hand.

Romi: Exactly. It always works itself out in the end.

We all need a little help along the journey. Who have been some of your mentors? Can you share a story about how they made an impact?

Romi: Working with Jason Oppeneheim has been a really inspiring part of my journey. He studied at UC Berkeley as well and is an attorney, general contractor, investor and boss real estate agent. When I told him I wanted to start residential real estate he immediately loved the idea and hired me — the rest is history and I’m lucky to call him my friend and mentor!

Chloe: I can’t do anything without my life coach, Vivace Maxvictor. I speak to her weekly, and it has been such a key to my success. Having that constant check-in, someone keeping you accountable and focused, it’s just so important.

In today’s parlance, being disruptive is usually a positive adjective. But is disrupting always good? When do we say the converse, that a system or structure has ‘withstood the test of time’? Can you articulate to our readers when disrupting an industry is positive, and when disrupting an industry is ‘not so positive’? Can you share some examples of what you mean?

Romi: I think there is this notion where you have to disrupt at the right time. Sometimes you have an idea, but maybe it’s too soon. But then again, isn’t that the point? To challenge an idea or perspective?

Chloe: Ya, totally. I think it comes back to the intention behind it. If the intention behind it is good and to make a positive impact, then it will happen at the right time.

Can you share 3 of the best words of advice you’ve gotten along your journey? Please give a story or example for each.

Like we said, get everything in writing!

Romi: Believe in your magic!

Chloe: I love that.

We are sure you aren’t done. How are you going to shake things up next?

We have just taken over sales of 100 Vandam, a really special new development project in West Soho. There are 72 units made up of three distinct collections; Historic, Tower, and Penthouse ranging from $17M — $50M. We just launched in conjunction with fashion week, hosting Christian Cowan’s NYFW programming throughout the building. We did his pre-show cocktail hour and after partner in our $35M duplex and the runway show took place in our garage. Everyone was there, it was absolutely surreal that our collective vision came to life.

In your opinion, what are the biggest challenges faced by ‘women disruptors’ that aren’t typically faced by their male counterparts?

As we know, it’s a never ending battle — probably the biggest thing we’ve come across in our careers is not being taken seriously. But then it always comes back to the work. When you work hard, shut out the noise and just keep your eye on the prize, the work speaks for itself. And that’s the damn truth!

Do you have a book/podcast/talk that’s had a deep impact on your thinking? Can you share a story with us?

We are really into affirmation playlists at the moment, the way you speak to yourself is so important!

Romi: It sets the tone.

You are a person of great influence. If you could inspire a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. :-)

Romi: You know what is a big one to me, is the practice of gratitude. A couple close friends and I do this thing where we email each other every morning 5 things we are grateful for, we’ve been doing it for over 10 years now. It’s been a very grounding and powerful practice. I even do this with my 2 year old, Jordan, we do this together every night at bedtime.

Chloe: Wait, do you really? And I thought I knew everything about you! That’s so crazy I actually do something similar, my mom started this with me when I was really little as well! That’s funny, we have to chat more about this offline.

Can you please give us your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share how that was relevant to you in your life?

Stay positive, say yes to things, be open and kind; it goes a long way.

How can our readers follow you online?

Romi: Well you can follow Chloe’s husband on her British Husband Tik Tok…

Chloe: Omg I can’t believe you just called me out like that. Yes I accidentally made my British husband a Tik Tok sensation but this article isn’t about him Romi! catch us on instagram at @Chloeinmanhattan and @RomiJordanMouillon

This was very inspiring. Thank you so much for joining us!
