Fia Johansson: “Here are 5 steps that each of us can take to improve or optimize our mental wellness”
Get more sleep. Go to bed one or two hours earlier than your normal time, in order to reduce anxiety, let your body heal inside and out, and recharge your batteries. Through good sleeping, we can connect with calmness techniques that make our body and our subconscious connect with each other and feel healthier and happier.
As a part of my series about the “5 Things, Anyone Can Do To Optimize Their Mental Wellness” I had the pleasure of interviewing Fia Johansson. Fia is a producer, angel investor, master entrepreneur, coach, and keynote speaker.
Thank you so much for doing this with us! Our readers would love to “get to know you” a bit better. Can you share with us the backstory about what brought you to your specific career path?
I’ve been a medium all my life. This unique gift has allowed me to help people grow, connect, and achieve great things in every area of their life. My work now as a coach to business leaders, professionals, dignitaries, celebrities, etc, the role I play comes naturally. Making a business out of this inexplicable gift was practically unavoidable. At every stage of my life, events would push me to deliver messages that help people. Helping people understand themselves or information around them allows them to overcome hurdles and achieve their goals. When other mediums call what they do a calling, it is true. To quiet the voices or attempt to ignore them is so disingenuous. Believe me, I had before. I have run many different kinds of businesses in my younger years, but you can’t hide something like this. In every aspect of my life, my gift plays some kind of role. Whether it is personal or professional, it is entirely a part of me. To make a business out of my capabilities was only the natural step to take. This allows me to be fully me, fully present, and do what I love the most which is help anyone I can.
Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started your career?
It was about four years ago, one of my clients walked into my office to get business coaching advice. All of a sudden, I felt that there is some female spirit that came together with him inside my room. She immediately connected to me and tried to show me colors, numbers, and names. I was seeing all of this as he was sitting in front of me, and spirit was telling me that he has a teenager and his teenaged boy is in danger. The weirdest part was that I had just met the client, and I didn’t know how to explain or tell him about this situation, because I also am a master entrepreneur coach and expert, so he wasn’t there for a reading, just for coaching. What happened was, I have something to say. The guy looked at me and said, “What? Is t my business partner? Should I not sign the contract?” And I said, it’s not about business and it’s not about your partner or investment, it’s about your teenaged boy who is in danger. He looked at me, shocked, like what the hell was I talking about? I’ve never been married, I have no teenage boy, and I don’t understand what you’re talking about. Immediately, I heard the voice whisper into my ear, “Rebecca. Tell him Rebecca July 9” So I looked at him again and I said, with all respect, you do have a teenage boy, and I feel you need to have to think of the name Rebecca July 9. His immediate reaction was “What are you talking about? How do you know Rebecca? She was my girlfriend about 17 years ago and she vanished without even telling me anything, and I haven’t heard from her since then.” Then I said, your responsibility from today is to find Rebecca’s family and to figure out if you have a son or not. So he was shocked, his eyes were wide, and he said, “What you say makes sense because Rebecca had said she was pregnant, and I told her she had to get an abortion because, at that time, both of us had no money or jobs and had no ability to take care of a kid. We weren’t even married. Day after that conversation, Rebecca never communicated with me or wanted to see me again. She had vanished.” I said okay, so your responsibility is to find him and take care of him because he’s not doing great and I’m feeling like she may not be alive. As a coach, I also have a gift as a medium that energies of people that have passed communicate with me. Two weeks later, he found his biological son who really was in danger. It shows how spirit can communicate or be worried about people who they love and who they care for even after their death. It is one of the craziest and most joyful stories that I helped reconnect a father with his son who truly needed him most.
Can you share a story with us about the most humorous mistake you made when you were first starting? What lesson or take-away did you learn from that?
I was invited to dinner by my friend, who had invited a group of her friends as well that I didn’t know at all. We were at the dinner table and sitting in front of me were three people: a woman, a man, and another woman. The women, I figured, were best friends. I knew nothing else about anyone’s connection. As I was looking at one of the women and the guy, I suddenly picked up heavy sexual energy — and, when I say this, I mean I could basically read that the man and woman had slept together that day. And normally, when you pick up this kind of sexual energy, you would assume they are either coupled or married. I opened my mouth and said, “Oh, you guys are so cute together. I can totally feel that you guys are going to have kids soon.” Disaster. It turns out that the woman I directed my comment to was actually not with the guy, but her best friend was. Everyone got incredibly tense, and the man ended up leaving the table and so did the friend. That night, I learned a big lesson to shut my mouth before someone introduces themselves as wife and husband! Never assume what is going on with connections between people. Three months later, I found out that the friend had indeed become pregnant by her best friend’s husband.
None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story about that?
What I owe my success to has always been my subconscious mind. My subconscious mind is what has helped me get to where I am. I have always worked to train my subconscious to follow me, not have me follow my subconscious. I trained my subconscious to follow my body, my soul, and it is what has brought me love, happiness, and success. I knew that if I used one percent of the power of my subconscious mind, I can get what I want. And I found this secret when I was 14.
What advice would you suggest to your colleagues in your industry to thrive and avoid burnout?
Ego will never help you grow. Get rid of it as soon as you can. If you need help, the greatest service you can do for yourself is to ask. To seek guidance and learn from others is a strength, not a weakness. Speaking of weaknesses, don’t focus on them — in yourself or others. Identify strengths in everyone and find creative and strategic ways to fuel them! Don’t assume you know everything. If you need help: ASK. Oh, and advice for everyone everywhere to be a leader in their career or life: NEVER GIVE UP.
What advice would you give to other leaders about how to create a fantastic work culture?
To be a good leader for a large team, you always have to lead yourself first. This means, learn how to manage your emotional muscles. Managing your emotional muscles will help you tune into your intuition and identify your own weaknesses and roadblocks. Also, always listen! Listen to what is happening with people, with teams, listen to questions and listen to guidance. When it comes to making changes and big decisions, try to always find the option or solution that will make the most number of people happy, not just yourself.
There is magic in diagnosing your development level and getting the direction and support you need to achieve your goals. A leader is anyone who can give you the support and direction you need to achieve your goals. The trick is to become a self-leader: this means challenge assumed constraints, celebrate your points of power, and collaborate for success. And then… teach others the magic of self-leadership!
Self-leadership and how to one-minute-manage your subconscious: discover the magic of no excuses, and no procrastination by hijacking your subconscious mind with the words I AM.
Ok thank you for all that. Now let’s move to the main focus of our interview. Mental health is often looked at in binary terms; those who are healthy and those who have mental illness. The truth, however, is that mental wellness is a huge spectrum. Even those who are “mentally healthy” can still improve their mental wellness. From your experience or research, what are five steps that each of us can take to improve or optimize our mental wellness. Can you please share a story or example for each.
1- Exercise. This is something that in today’s day and age it is so easy to ignore. Either we are sitting at work or sitting at home on computers and phones. Getting our bodies moving changes mood and decreases anxiety. It really endorphins which are crucial for our health and happiness.
2- Eat healthy & happy foods. Not only should they be nutritious, but they should make you feel good! When we don’t eat healthy foods, our body collects toxins that affect our organs and those in fact affect our mind. We tire quickly and our minds don’t work at optimum capability. Happy foods are things that bring you joy to eat, but being healthy is most important for our physical bodies.
3- Change your circumstances immediately. Meet new friends. Engage with things that get you learning and moving, like dance classes for example. Shake hands with new people. Bring positive people into your life who alter your circumstances and bring out the positives.
4- Change your mindset. This is a choice that we make. We have to choose positive thought patterns over negative ones. A lot of this begins with us recognizing our negative thought patterns in order to address this. Let go of negative people, don’t take things personally. Make sure you’re surrounded by light, love, to connect with enlightenment inside.
5- Get more sleep. Go to bed one or two hours earlier than your normal time, in order to reduce anxiety, let your body heal inside and out, and recharge your batteries. Through good sleeping, we can connect with calmness techniques that make our body and our subconscious connect with each other and feel healthier and happier.
Much of my expertise focuses on helping people to plan for after retirement. Retirement is a dramatic ‘life course transition’ that can impact one’s health. In addition to the ideas you mentioned earlier, are there things that one should do to optimize mental wellness after retirement? Please share a story or an example for each.
Retirement doesn’t mean that you have to completely back off from y our social life or the things you did in life. Retirement means you have to lay back and relax, but still remain productive in ways that bring meaning and joy to our lives. A lot of this comes from feeling useful in society. As long as they do, there’s no way they can get depressed. Their body is used to working 24/7 and their brain is used to being productive, creative, and knowing answers to all questions. And if someone just stops after so many years of creativity and productivity, then we fall into depression and feeling hopeless and also feeling worthless. In order to not feel those things above, they need to activate themselves by mentoring, coaching, and sharing wisdom with young people around them who would love to succeed.
How about teens and pre-teens. Are there any specific new ideas you would suggest for teens and pre-teens to optimize their mental wellness?
My biggest advice to teens is to stay away from time wasters. Stay away from money wasters. And stay away from people who promise things, but bring nothing to fruition. Because it makes them be completely discouraged, gives them low confidence about their ideas and attitudes, and also remember when they are asking or seeking something, you have to make sure that that person in question has enough knowledge to guide you and to support you. Lose your hope and shut down all the hope that you had because someone didn’t answer to your dreams and desires. And of course, never give up and always believe in yourself. Try to not pretend to be anyone else. Just be yourself and be the best version of yourself. Find and hone your talent. Each of us has a talent that we can use in our life. So find your talent, and connect your talent with your dream, and make a package that you deliver to the world through your light and personality.
Is there a particular book that made a significant impact on you? Can you share a story?
The Secret because it changed my mindset and how I looked at things and how I dreamed and looked at myself and my goals. It made me believe that there are many ways, not just one way. It made me believe that anything is possible. The secret made Impossible to “IM Possible” to me. Also, The Principle by Jack Canfield, that showed me how to succeed faster. And how to connect with my own thoughts to bring my own talent and see many possibilities to catch the opportunities.
You are a person of great influence. If you could start a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. :-)
Help others without any expectations. Make it a habit to do one thing daily to help an individual without getting anything back. We raise our own vibrations when we help raise the vibration of others.
Can you please give us your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Do you have a story about how that was relevant in your life?
“Always stay humble.” No matter what your title, no matter your life circumstance, your finances, ALWAYS stay humble. Always be the last person in the room that talks. Always give others credit and respect and allow them to bring their ideas and opinions to the table. Never show off to people who really work for you and want to see the greatest success in you. Always make others feel that your success is because of them, not just because of you. Your humility will allow you to better embrace others, and celebrate the successes of others.
