Take time to enjoy your work, if you truly like what you do. I like interviewing people and filming out in the field. Sometimes setting up the logistics for that (while preparing for an interview) can be a distraction from how much I love this part of making a film.

As a part of our series about “Filmmakers Making A Social Impact” I had the pleasure of interviewing Kathleen Ermitage.

Kathleen Ermitage’s directorial debut is the feature documentary Mixtape Trilogy: Stories of the Power of Music, featuring the Indigo Girls, Vijay Iyer and Talib Kweli — which was on the festival circuit in 2022 and secured distribution. Early in her career, she produced and directed more than a hundred educational films distributed nationally on Channel One. She worked as an associate producer on What the Hell Happened to Blood, Sweat & Tears?, Chasing Trane: the John Coltrane Documentary, Sergio Mendes: In the Key of Joy, PBS programs, and a film about a major league baseball team.
