Create a checklist of DOs and DONTs with your team during your divorce and then refer to it as often as possible so you avoid stepping on landmines.

Mistakes happen! But in a divorce, mistakes, especially emotional ones, cannot only hurt your case, but, be costly to fix. If you want to survive and thrive from a divorce, try to remember, short-term “stick-it-to-them” satisfaction is not worth the potential long-term expensive loss. Recently I spoke to a group of experts. Some you read in this column, listen to on my radio show, “The Divorce Hour with Ilyssa Panitz” as well as other professionals working in the divorce space. I asked them, “What were some of the biggest screw-ups clients made during a divorce and were there repercussions for their actions?” Their responses might surprise you or open your eyes of what “NOT” to do. The goal of this article is to help you avoid making them and digging yourself into a deep, damaging hole.
