Ideas in the Wild: How Cancer Survivor Veronica Villanueva is Inspiring Others to Heal Their Bodies and Minds
“Sweetie, you have cancer.”
That’s what doctors told Veronica Villanueva after she practically crawled into the ER, unable to breathe. Then came the next bombshell — her disease was incurable. And yet, three years later, Veronica is thriving, with “no signs of the disease in her body.”
In The Grace of Cancer: Lessons in Humility and Greatness, Veronica delivers an inspirational message of hope and courage, and shares the recipe she used to fight her “incurable” disease. She teaches readers the root causes of cancer and practical steps to balance and heal their body with an empowered mindset, belief in themselves, and that the higher power, God, and the universe are on their side. I recently sat down with Veronica to learn about the moment that inspired her to write the book and her favorite ideas that she shares with readers.
What happened that made you decide to write the book? What was the exact moment when you realized these ideas needed to get out there?
When you heal yourself, especially from a horrific disease like cancer, and are told that you have six months to live, it becomes a responsibility and a privilege to heal other people. I couldn’t keep my story to myself, especially knowing that there are other people suffering and dying from the same disease I had. The moment I realized I went from choosing to be ALIVE, created aggressive steps to be WELL, and then to be where I am today, THRIVING, I realized my experience, my story, and my formula had to be shared with the world.
What’s your favorite specific, actionable idea in the book?
The importance of sleep and journaling are two lessons I learned in my healing journey. In the past, we were conditioned to believe that if we wanted to succeed in life, we had to work hard and sleep as little as possible if we wanted to get ahead in life.
Now, we know this to be untrue and extremely dangerous for our health. Journaling is a must-do exercise to gain clarity and have an empowered mind. The same way we should detox daily, we should also download all our negative and limiting beliefs on paper daily.
What’s a story of how you’ve applied that idea in your life? What has this lesson done for you?
Today, I sleep at least eight hours daily, and have learned to adopt bedtime rituals that promote a restorative sleep that cleans my brain of toxins, boosts my immune system, and repairs and balances my physical body. To achieve optimal health, we must keep our mind and body free of toxins. Both sleep and journaling accomplishes this.
The overall theme is to look from within for answers, rather than looking to our external environment for solutions. I support other modalities to help us become healthy, but only after we have taken the responsibility to do our part in our journey of health. For example, Xanax or daily massages do not foster accountability nor sustainability, whereas, lavender essential oil in a diffuser and a warm bath are more sustainable habits to promote wellness.
It is incredible how easily and fully the body can heal after we take responsibility and accountability for our health and happiness.
