I would love to inspire a movement to include as a required part of everyone’s formal education a significant time spent learning experientially from cultures and people who have maintained the core knowledge of how to thrive totally off the grid. This time would be spent immersed in the beauty and mystery of the natural world, acquiring survival skills and developing the deep and lasting security that comes from understanding our inextricable interconnectedness with the earth and all things living. Everyone would then carry within them an unshakable truth that they are capable of surviving apart from the modern world. One of the dangers I see coming is a tendency to lose sight of the undeniable Truth that we can not survive without a viable planet. It will become increasingly easy to ignore this fact as we spend more and more of our time in virtual reality, dazzled by the seemingly superhuman abilities the world of AI and super tech offer us. We have the best chance as a species of surviving this paradigm shift if we keep one foot firmly on the earth while we are navigating the far reaches of the brave new universe that is forming right before our eyes.

I had the pleasure to interview Lily Whitehawk. Lily is a life coach, author and the creator and co-founder of HUSO, an innovative sound frequency technology. Much of her life has been spent “outside the box”, living close to nature, following the way of ancient healing arts and wisdom that is still found today in traditional indigenous cultures. After many years in Hawaii and the American southwest, she now spends her time in the mountains of North Carolina.

Thank you so much for doing this with us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

I am in love with sound. People tell me that I sang before I could talk. I spent some time as a young woman in sound studios as a singer and songwriter before walking away. Something was terribly out of alignment, some critical piece of the puzzle was missing in that platform for me. I have also been a person drawn to the more left-field understandings of how the universe works. Indigenous cultures matter-of-factly acknowledge a different kind of wisdom and deep understanding of life that to the rest of the world defies logic. However, this made perfect sense to me. This need to push the boundaries of what is accepted as Truth by the mainstream and my desire to see what my voice was capable of led me to jump off the edge and free fall into the realms of sound healing.

I have always been awed at the (sometimes!) miraculous effect sound has on people. Time and time again I have been witness to how the transformative power of sound in the form of chants, toning, and drumming can alleviate suffering and help to balance people, heal communities and restore well being. I have watched people who were deeply depressed and anxious get up from a sound experience calm, relaxed and once again hopeful. I have seen pain vanish, emotional trauma alleviated, toxins released from the body and have been witness to things modern science would deem impossible. I have watched a now-deceased Cherokee medicine man restore the hearing of a child who had been born deaf. I have seen a Scottish war veteran who had not been able to move his arm for decades because of an old war injury wave that arm joyously over his head, tears streaming down his face because of sound therapy. I have heard well documented stories of Tibetan monks using sound to move boulders. I have attended a sundance on a Lakota reservation where courageous native men living with the challenge of diabetes set aside their prescribed medication and danced their way through four days of a grueling sacred ceremony using only the power of chants and prayer songs.

Being a child of the modern world with a very curious mind I wanted to understand what was happening in the body to affect these changes. I found the answers in the realms of physiology and quantum physics. I began searching for ways I could bring all of these understandings and revelations into the world so they could reach and serve more people. I wanted to do so in a format that would be accepted into the mainstream and utilized by those who had never been exposed to sound as a form of medicine.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you began your career?

Now that is a hard question to answer! I will share two stories, one concerning my experience as a sound healer and one concerning HUSO. First the sound healer story: years ago, I was doing a session on the island of Maui for someone having a difficult time moving out of a contracted place of fear that was interfering with their ability to function. There were some pretty strong sound frequencies being used to shatter the harmful pattern. Next, restorative sounds were being used to provide balance and energy for healing. For those of you who have never experienced this, sometimes the sounds that come through the healer’s voice seem otherworldly and not quite human, in a vocal range not normal for most people. Suddenly I hear approaching sirens and the next thing I know firemen were banging on the door. Someone outside the building had reported unusual sounds that they interpreted as some kind of fire alarm! I could not bring myself to tell them the sounds had been coming from this 5’4” woman. Struggling to keep a straight face, I just let them know there was no fire and everything was fine!

There have been many equally interesting moments in my journey with HUSO specifically related to its users. I have been floored watching people who say they have not been able to sleep for months fall into a deep sleep within the first ten minutes of their session. I love it that some of our biggest fans are little people under the age of twelve. They love HUSO! (Maybe it has something to do with the headphones and the sci fi-like aspect of wearing the pad bands!) It thrills me that experienced meditators get what we are doing right away and are using HUSO to enhance their meditative state. I am astounded that some of our most enthusiastic adopters are biohackers, extreme sports athletes, pro athletes and their trainers. These people have tried many of the modalities out there and they are very in touch with their bodies so they know right away that HUSO is affecting them profoundly. Every day I learn more from our HUSO users and I am grateful for every one of them.

Can you tell us about the “Bleeding edge” technological breakthroughs that you are working on? How do you think that will help people?

HUSO is a patented technology that takes the sound of the human voice, an intimately familiar sound — at frequencies we are hard-wired to respond to. Through a process utilizing modern technology and principles of quantum physics, it’s turned into sound medicine capable of restoring balance and well being to an out of balance body system.

To create HUSO tones, we break recordings of experienced sound healers into frequencies and then enhance them by manipulating waveforms and adding harmonics to produce a specific oscillation capable of returning highly stressed out, anxious, tired and unhealthy people stuck in a fight or flight to a deeply relaxed, calm and focused state of balance and well being. Unlike most sound frequency therapies that use electronically produced sound delivered in a digital format, we figured out a way to deliver HUSO sound in analog full spectrum mode through headphones as well as pads placed on major acupuncture meridians so that none of the subtle harmonics are lost.

We currently have a HUSO PRO unit that is being used by physicians, wellness practitioners, athletic coaches and trainers as well as a HUSO HOME unit for the general public. We are continuing to perfect HUSO and are now in the planning stages of the next generation of HUSO systems, capable of not only delivering sound frequency, but also providing the ability to test for tones (HUSO PRO), measure effects on the user in real time, and keep track of their progress in a one-box, sleek, compact design. These next generation units will have the capability of interfacing with each other so that a practitioner can monitor the progress of their client as well as better configure personalized programs for them to use in their treatment.

We are continuing to create new tones and programs and will be headed back to the studio in a few weeks to formulate tones designed to aid those with specific challenges like tinnitus and traumatic brain injury. We are also working on a system for pets as well as creating a HUSO APP that should be out some time next year.

We are confident HUSO can play a major role in restoring peace, health and well being in a world where these things are increasingly hard to come by. We have designed a product that is non-invasive, safe and easy to use that is extremely effective for many many people.

How do you think this might change the world?

If people can stay balanced in body and mind, then they are better able to think clearly, make better decisions, sleep better, and stay calm in the midst of an increasingly chaotic planet. This bullet train ride to a virtual reality, AI-dominated world, is not slowing down. We need new tools and ways of maintaining our wellbeing so that we can stay grounded, not lose our zen and easily navigate this new normal in a healthy way with the least negative impact. HUSO is on a mission to help with this process.

Keeping “Black Mirror” in mind can you see any potential drawbacks about this technology that people should think more deeply about?

Sound frequency is one of the most powerful tools we have to affect change in matter — whether that matter is organic or inorganic. Using sound originating from natural healthy sources at beneficial levels in the right configuration can restore health and wellbeing, enhance performance and improve cognitive function. In the wrong hands and at harmful levels it can be used as a weapon to disintegrate entire buildings, trigger massive earthquakes, fatally disrupt vital body systems, reprogram consciousness and destroy life. It can also be used to deliver subliminal messaging to the brain and scramble DNA signaling in the cells of the body. These are things to consider carefully before entering the brave new world of frequency medicine.

Was there a “tipping point” that led you to this breakthrough? Can you tell us that story?

A few years ago, I started noticing an alarmingly rapid increase in the number of people I was seeing in my practice who were exhausted and seriously sick. They could no longer sleep, think straight or calm their nervous system down. It was obvious to me that something somewhere had gone off the rails, but what was it?

My normal “habitat” is the middle of nowhere, but occasionally I would find myself walking down sidewalks of huge noisy metropolitan cities where everyone seemed to be frantically rushing to somewhere, with eight out of ten of them on cell phones. Energetically the collective felt extremely over-amped, anxious, and stressed, filled with static and chaos. After one of those rare whirlwind excursions I woke up in the middle of the night with my AH HA moment: the problem is that our modern environment with all of its challenges and overwhelm, with its relentless inundation of information and stimulation 24/7, with the astounding proliferation of artificial man-made frequencies that allow for all of this new shiny technology we are so in love with, has happened at hair raising warp speed. We as humans cannot evolve fast enough to successfully adapt to our changing paradigm and we are now stumbling badly. The transformation of our world has gathered speed and high tech AI innovators are in the driver’s seat, with the rest of us hanging on for dear life.

One solution for this dilemma (perhaps the most powerful solution) — delivering a high tech form of sound frequency to a body in distress! Something that had been dancing around in my head for a few years came together fully formed this night. I saw very clearly how I could combine ancient tradition with modern technology; a way to supercharge the sound of the human voice, and then deliver it to the body as audible sound as well as oscillations through pads placed on acupuncture points.

What do you need to lead this technology to widespread adoption?

We need clinical studies. At this point, we have literally hundreds and hundreds of unsolicited testimonials as well as preliminary studies on blood pressure and heart rate variability that prove HUSO is delivering profound results for people way beyond any placebo effect. There are thousands of peer reviewed studies on the effectiveness of sound and frequency therapy as well as on the scientific principles our technology utilizes. Now we are looking for ways to get laboratory testing done to prove the specific efficacy of HUSO. We also need funding to develop the next generation of HUSO PRO and HUSO HOME, and to increase our outreach and expand our team. Up to now we have been three people — CEO Larry Doochin, Chief Executive Bill Flanagan and myself — doing a job that should by all rights take an army of 20 to execute. Some days it feels like a never-ending marathon, but it is more than worth it.

What have you been doing to publicize this idea? Have you been using any innovative marketing strategies?

Our main promotional platform up until now has been primarily social media, specifically Facebook and Instagram. We like both of these venues because they allow us to cultivate and build a relationship with our expanding family of HUSO users while at the same time giving us an opportunity to educate people about our technology. This education piece is critical in the process of introducing an unknown and little-understood technology to the world.

We have also relied heavily on the amazing unsolicited testimonials our users send us, utilizing their words and video reviews (some of them self-made) in our advertising. We are fortunate in that a few of these users have turned out to be major influencers — people like pro football player Derrick Morgan and well-known biohacker Dave Asprey.

We have showcased our technology at events as diverse as Ironman Kona and integrative medicine conferences where we have been met with curiosity and enthusiastic response.

We have created affiliate programs for our HUSO PRO and HUSO HOME adopters that benefit them whenever their recommendations lead to a purchase.

Most recently, we have employed the services of Emboss Communications, a fabulous marketing team made up of two enthusiastic, go-getter women who are adept at spreading the word and opening up avenues to reach more people.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story about that?

There is no one person I can single out here. I am grateful for my interactions with everyone in my life, both those who offered encouragement and those who created challenges for me to overcome. Every one of them served as blessed teachers, galvanizing me in different ways to keep pushing, to not give up, and to believe in myself even when the rest of the world seemed indifferent, or worse, openly hostile and destructive. Those who offered support and acknowledgement that they heard me and accepted me as I am, those with whom I shared a common vision of the future filled me with a desire to keep pushing the boundaries of what I knew so that I could better empower others. Those who pushed back against me gave me the opportunity again and again to face the choice of seeing myself as a victim or taking a warrior stance, turning misfortune and disappointment into fuel for growth and personal power. Every time I chose the warrior stance I became stronger and more determined to keep climbing.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

The more I learn, the more I can share. I spend what spare time I have teaching and assisting those who are interested in expanding their understanding of the universe, improving their wellbeing and dissolving whatever it is that creates false limitation in their lives. I am on a mission to provide tools to as many people as I can so that they find the courage to leap over the fences society has erected to corral them in a world where what is possible and what is not is strictly delineated. Only then will they be able to fully experience true freedom: freedom of thought, freedom to follow their dreams, freedom from fear and self doubt, freedom to love boldly and fearlessly embrace life in all its glorious terrifying mind blowing splendor.

What are your “5 Things I Wish Someone Told Me Before I Started” and why?

1) Persistence is everything. Never, ever give up. Slow down if you have to, pause and regroup, but do not stop; do not back down. If you need something, some knowledge or skill that you do not possess, open your eyes and what you need will present itself. If there is a question, there is always an answer waiting somewhere to be discovered. If you keep going you will get there. It is inevitable.

2) People are resistant to change and prefer the known path rather than forging a path to new territory. I was dismayed to learn how few pioneers, intrepid explorers and bold adventurers there are in the world of investment capitalists. If you look closely at the trends in funding you begin to notice that people tend to stick with what analysts tell them rather than thinking for themselves and coming to their own conclusions. On the surface it looks as if this collective is boldly going where no one has ever gone before, but actually they are pretty much all going in the same direction, following a path that has been deemed safe by statistics and the latest algorithm. It seems that now that path leads to APP land, and anything outside of that does not compute. I now understand that fear of failure can rear its head even among successful people and limit their vision of what is possible.

3) Most people trust media messaging and collective beliefs and preferences more than they trust their direct experience of a thing. It continues to shock me that people can be so afraid to even consider that something new can improve their life and hold true value, even when the old way is harming them and not working any more, even when incontrovertible proof that a new way is more effective and makes more sense is staring them in the face. I learned quickly to accept with grace and understanding that they are not ready for a change, and that’s okay.

4) When you hit a wall, back up until you can see a way around it. Life is like a maze, full of promising paths that lead to dead ends and confused twists and turns that end up delivering you to Shangri La. There is always a way through the maze. So during those times of confusion, back up until you can see the pattern, retrace your steps if you find yourself at a dead end. It is only a dead end if you stop there.

5) No one can take your power unless you give it to them. It seems there are two types of people in the world: those that are motivated by cooperation, and those who are ruled by competition. I am more comfortable in the world of cooperation, however since entering the corporate world I find myself surrounded by highly competitive individuals determined to do whatever it takes to win even if that means running roughshod over their fellow citizens. I have learned to not back down or surrender and to try to create a space of cooperation that will attract others also interested in mutual support and building a better world together.

You are a person of great influence. If you could inspire a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. :-)

We have the best chance as a species of surviving this paradigm shift if we keep one foot firmly on the earth while we are navigating the far reaches of the brave new universe that is forming right before our eyes.

Can you please give us your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share how that was relevant to you in your life?

I have always loved this quote from Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach: “Argue for your limitations, and sure enough, they are yours.”

Rather than follow the path that is most accepted by this society I have instead forged my own path through life and along the way have met with challenges that I could have interpreted as insurmountable limitations. In a world that measures validity by what institutions one graduates from and how many degrees and certificates one accumulates, I am mostly self educated, gleaning much of whatever knowledge and wisdom I may have directly from personal observation, research and experience. I follow the traditional way in my sound healing practice which dictates I not utilize self promotion or advertising and rely instead on word of mouth to bring those to me who can benefit from what I do. In a society that measures success by the accumulation of wealth, I have been broke and homeless, working part time jobs on more than one occasion when I needed to take a break from the intense experience of interacting so intimately with people in my practice. My nervous system is so sensitive that things which other people breeze through, like air travel or visiting places with a large concentration of people such as New York or Chicago, are for me like running a gauntlet. I have faced disbelief and ridicule because my understanding of how things work at a macrocosmic as well as micro cosmic level is not widely understood by the majority of people.

All of these things I could have seen as impossible obstacles rather than recognizing them as challenges to be overcome. At those times when I was confronted with situations that could have derailed me, Bach’s quote reminded me that we are all capable of much much more than we know and the only thing that can hold us back is our belief that we can’t do something. It reminds me that if one way doesn’t work, to keep searching until I find a way that will. It encouraged me to keep going, to push the boundaries and not give power to perceived physical limitations or constraints that much of society would see as insurmountable.

Although I am a pro at surfing the outer banks of consciousness, when I was ready to bring HUSO into the corporate jungle, I realized that I did not have a clue where to start or how to make it happen. I chose not to argue for my limitations or give up the dream, and instead put out the call for a partner who could fill in the blanks. Larry stepped up with his experience navigating the world of business, his willingness to take on a steep learning curve in the arena of sound frequency and go all in to make HUSO happen. And now here we are!

Some very well known VCs read this column. If you had 60 seconds to make a pitch to a VC, what would you say? He or she might just see this if we tag them :-)

In the words of Nikola Tesla, “If you want to find the secrets of the Universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.”

There is a significant body of evidence that exposure to environmental toxins, harmful electromagnetic frequencies, and stress disrupt the normal frequency signaling of the body’s cells, causing an exponential rise in health conditions such as sleep disorders, anxiety, ADHD in children, and autoimmune disease. Half of the U.S. population reports a major sleep issue at least once a week. Forty million are dealing with chronic anxiety. Conditions such as Fibromyalgia and ADHD have risen almost 10,000 percent in the last 25 years.

Tens of millions are turning to alternative medicine and emerging new technologies, searching for answers to their health issues.

We are at the crest of an unfolding wave. Our goal is to stay on top of that wave and to provide a primary solution for combatting the detrimental effects of exposure to toxic environmental conditions, harmful EMFs and stress, from both a product and education standpoint. For many reasons related to our IP, we believe that HUSO is the most effective product on the market to do this.

HUSO is a patented, non-invasive, easy-to-use sound frequency therapy that balances the autonomic nervous system, gently shifting the body and mind from a sympathetic (fight or flight) state into a deep parasympathetic (resting or healing) state. The HUSO system restores wellness and balance by recalibrating the body’s electromagnetic field through the scientific properties of resonance and entrainment. Consisting of human toning that was enhanced to create an oscillating waveform, it blends the best of ancient tradition with modern technology. HUSO is not regulated by the FDA and is available both as a professional unit and as a home unit. Our technology is providing significant results to users of all ages, from young children to the elderly. Our user base is continually expanding and now includes prominent professional athletes, coaches and trainers, biohackers, medical doctors and alternative medicine providers.

If you see yourself as an innovator, as someone who is interested in getting in on the ground floor of the next big thing in the world of wellness and sports performance enhancement then come join us in this exciting journey. Help us get this technology custom designed for the new world out in a big way and in the process, be a part of history.

Clinical trials are due to start soon.
