Isabel Sanchez Of Dreamroo: Five Strategies Our Company Is Using To Tackle Climate Change & Become More Sustainable
An Interview With Martita Mestey
Don’t be afraid to take risks. Playing it safe may limit growth opportunities. Risk taking can open doors to new markets and innovation.
As a part of our series about how companies are becoming more sustainable, we had the pleasure of interviewing Isabel Sanchez.
Isabel, CEO of Dreamroo, is a dedicated mother of three and seasoned industrial engineer with over a decade of experience in the consumer goods industry, having worked with top Fortune 500 companies. As the founder and CEO of Dreamroo, a woman, minority, and veteran-owned enterprise, she is on a mission to simplify everyday tasks through sustainable products. Isabel is a passionate advocate for diversity and inclusivity, and she is committed to making a positive impact on people’s lives through her innovative solutions.
Thank you so much for doing this with us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
A few years ago, when I became a mother, while still working in corporate and while still in the military, I began to see the struggles of trying to balance work, family, and everything in between, all while trying to maintain a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. I recognized there was a need for more practical and functional products that could keep up with the demands of modern life. My vision for Dreamroo was to create products that could make everyday tasks easier and more efficient, while also being family-friendly and eco-conscious.
What is the mission of your company? What problems are you aiming to solve?
At Dreamroo, our mission is to bring practical and functional product solutions to make everyday tasks easier. We believe that life should be simplified, and our goal is to provide innovative kitchen and feeding accessories that enhance convenience and efficiency. By offering products designed with practicality in mind, we aim to empower individuals and families to navigate their busy lives with ease. Our commitment to creating practical solutions drives us to constantly innovate and deliver high-quality products that have a positive impact on the daily routines of our customers.
Can you tell our readers about the initiatives that you or your company are taking to address climate change or sustainability? Can you give an example for each?
At Dreamroo, we understand the importance of protecting our planet and we are committed to reducing our environmental footprint by promoting sustainable practices. Our goal is to eliminate single-use plastics from our everyday activities. We offer reusable and refillable food containers and encourage the use of eco-friendly materials to help reduce waste and promote sustainable living.
We recognize the significant impact that plastic waste has on our oceans and marine life. That’s why we are dedicated to using eco-friendly materials, such as silicone, which is a safe and non-toxic alternative to plastic. By choosing to use silicone products, we can help protect our oceans and reduce plastic pollution.
How would you articulate how a business can become more profitable by being more sustainable and more environmentally conscious? Can you share a story or example?
A business can become more profitable since implementing sustainable practices often involves reducing waste, conserving resources, and improving energy efficiencies which can lead to significant savings over time. Optimizing supply chain processes can also reduce transportation costs, minimize waste, and improve inventory management, all of which also contribute to higher profitability.
At Dreamroo, maintaining our high standards for sustainable and ecofriendly products, packaging and shipping material has helped us keep our cost down as well as continues to enhance our brand reputation which ultimately convert to more sales. We can drive growth and profitability while meeting the customer demands for eco-friendly products.
The youth led climate strikes of September 2019 showed an impressive degree of activism and initiative by young people on behalf of climate change. This was great, and there is still plenty that needs to be done. In your opinion what are a few things parents should do to inspire the next generation to become engaged in sustainability and the environmental movement?
1 . Parents should lead by example in modeling sustainable behaviors in their daily routines.
2 . Parents should educate their kids with age-appropriate conversations about why sustainability matters and the impact we can have on the planet.
3 . Parents should involve their kids at home with activities like recycling, composting and gardening.
4 . Parents should encourage the whole family to participate in local environmental events such as beach clean-ups and tree planting.
5 . Parents should also spend more time in nature with their children to foster a deeper connection with the environment.
What are your “5 Things I Wish Someone Told Me Before I Started” and why?
- You can’t wear all the hats. It’s ok to ask for help and delegate. Attempting to do everything alone can lead to burnout and inefficiencies.
- It’s ok if you don’t have all the answers. Acknowledging that you don’t have all the answers encourages a mindset of continuous learning. Being open to learning and willing to explore new solutions can help you identify new creative ways to overcome obstacles.
- Don’t be afraid to take risks. Playing it safe may limit growth opportunities. Risk taking can open doors to new markets and innovation.
- Persistence is key. Building and growing a business is challenging, and having setbacks is inevitable. However, being able push forward persistently can often make the difference between success and failure.
- Relationships and networking matters. Nurturing relationships and building a network can provide support, mentorship, and opportunities you might not have access to otherwise.
None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story about that?
I’m truly grateful for my husband, who has been an unwavering source of support on my journey to success. He has not only believed in me but has also stood by my side through the toughest decisions, offering valuable advice and encouragement. His faith in my abilities has been a driving force, reminding me that I’m never alone in my pursuit of achieving my goals. Having such a steadfast partner has been instrumental in my journey, and I am incredibly thankful for his presence and unwavering support.
You are a person of great influence and doing some great things for the world! If you could inspire a movement that would bring the greatest amount of good to the greatest amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. :-)
I would like to inspire a movement dedicated to empowering and enabling women to unleash their fullest potential in every aspect of their lives. This movement would strive to inspire women to pursue their dreams, whether it’s in their roles as mothers, entrepreneurs, professionals, or in any endeavor they are passionate about.
Do you have a favorite life lesson quote? Can you tell us how that was relevant to you in your own life?
“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts.” — Winston Churchill
This quote emphasizes the idea that success and failure and not permanent but rather part of an ongoing journey. It is relevant to many aspects of my own life, including personal growth and career development, as it underlines the importance of resilience and determination in the face of both success and setbacks.
