RELAX!: Stress and sleep are probably the most under-appreciated actors when it comes to putting on weight. The stress hormone cortisol — which is constantly elevated when you’re under stress all the time — is a great hormone for surviving an emergency, like the first gear on a car. But elevated cortisol is terrible for your life. It sends a message to the body to store fat around the middle, producing what we call “stress fat”, especially in women.

So many of us have tried dieting. All too often though, many of us lose 10–20 pounds, but we end up gaining it back. Not only is yo-yo dieting unhealthy, it is also demoralizing and makes us feel like giving up. What exactly do we have to do to achieve a healthy body weight and to stick with it forever?
