You need to know your market first and foremost.

My advice to anyone would be: Do your homework. Study the market. Pinpoint what’s actually happening within your chosen field. What’s trending? What direction is the market moving in? No one can predict the marketplace per se, but you’ll be better off if you’re armed with knowledge than simply going in blind.
