Lillee Jean: Getting An Upgrade; How Anyone Can Build Habits For Optimal Wellness, Performance, & Focus
--
It’s really important to get your head in the game. Discipline is key, and that is something that is sometimes hard to achieve for anyone. Once I set my mind to something, nothing really can deter me.
As a part of our series about “How Anyone Can Build Habits For Optimal Wellness, Performance, & Focus”, I had the pleasure of interviewing Lillee Jean.
Lillee Jean is a well-known American YouTuber and Instagram digital celebrity, who lives in New York City. Her content varies but focuses mainly on beauty, health, and lifestyle tips and tutorials. You can catch her on her social media channels, as well as her self-produced, IMDB-approved web series, Lillee Jean TALKS! Live (which is in its second season), and airs on her YouTube Channel and website.
Thank you so much for joining us in this interview series! Before we dive into the main focus of our interview, our readers would love to “get to know you” a bit better. Can you tell us a bit about your childhood backstory?
East Coast girl, born in Queens, New York, passionate about everything health, beauty, and lifestyle related. There really is nothing more inspiring than being in New York to connect with one’s artistic side.
What or who inspired you to pursue your career? We’d love to hear the story.
My inspiration didn’t come from a specific person, but from the allure of working in the arts, especially entertainment. I have never regretted my decision, as it was a natural fit.
None of us can achieve success without some help along the way. Was there a particular person who you feel gave you the most help or encouragement to be who you are today? Can you share a story about that?
My fans have grown with me since I began this journey. They’ve been a tremendous support to me. As much as possible, we share our lives, and I enjoy interacting with them. The people who have followed my career from the beginning have literally inspired me to become who I am today.
Can you share the funniest or most interesting mistake that occurred to you in the course of your career? What lesson or take away did you learn from that?
It’s been pretty smooth sailing so far. I have occasionally recorded without pressing the record button, or not realizing there was no sound when I was talking, but these were not major issues in my career.
The road to success is hard and requires tremendous dedication. This question is obviously a big one, but what advice would you give to a young person who aspires to follow in your footsteps and emulate your success?
As an entrepreneur, I would say that anyone who wants to get into the entertainment industry should expect long hours, and a great deal of hard work in order to succeed. Despite the hardships, the rewards at the end of the day are worth it.
Is there a particular book that made a significant impact on you? Can you share a story or explain why it resonated with you so much?
I consider “The Art of War”, by Sun Tzu, to be one of the most important books I have read and used every day. It is a miracle that this book has survived since the 5th Century BC. What is wonderful about this book is that Sun Tzu was not violent, he believed in making peace gestures to anyone who might threaten him. I consider it a must read, and it is applicable even by today’s standards to everyday life.
Can you share your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Why does that resonate with you so much?
Kanye West is one of the most talented and prolific entertainers today. One of my favorite quotes of his is, “Never stop fighting no matter what anyone says. If it’s in your gut, your soul, there’s nothing, no worldly possession that should come between you and your expression.” It resonates within me because I believe what he says is true. There is no way in which you can let others live your life for you, run your life, or dictate your life. Each of us only gets one shot at it, so it is up to us to learn and write our own story.
What are some of the most interesting or exciting projects you are working on now? How do you think that might help people?
This is going to be a very exciting year for me in 2022. I am currently working on a documentary that examines the online bullying that I have had to endure for so long. Because it is still so raw to talk about what has been done to me by a group of cyber criminals who are just out to harass people, I had to step outside my comfort zone on this one. Simply put, if I get through to just one person, or if my words make an impact on just one person, I’ve done well.
OK, thank you for all of that. Let’s now shift to the core focus of our interview. This will be intuitive to you but it will be helpful to spell this out directly. Can you help explain a few reasons why it is so important to create good habits? Can you share a story or give some examples?
As you grow in your career, establishing good habits, being organized, and preparing yourself to accept these habits is the first step to getting ahead.
How have habits played a role in your success? Can you share some success habits that have helped you in your journey?
A strong sense of good habits plays a major role in every individual’s work and home lives, I think. Because chaos causes tension in everyone, I decided to reorganize my brain, to identify what was causing me to feel so tense, and after recognizing that I needed more organization at work, the rest just fell into place.
Speaking in general, what is the best way to develop good habits? Conversely, how can one stop bad habits?
By writing down what you do for a day, you can develop good habits. This allowed me to recognize what I was leaving out of the equation. I believe that stopping bad habits is a mental process.
Let’s talk about creating good habits in three areas, Wellness, Performance, and Focus. Can you share three good habits that can lead to optimum wellness. Please share a story or example for each.
In my daily routine, optimum wellness is a priority. I am always prepared with my plan of organization to ensure I am taking care of my business as well as, most importantly, taking care of myself. I have also started to relax a little bit. As much of my work involves social media, I try to turn the phone off when I am having “me” time. Even checking your messages can have adverse effects on your health. In addition, I always keep snacks handy when I am working. In our busy work routines, a lot of us tend to miss out on hydrating ourselves and eating.
Can you help explain some practices that can be used to develop those habits?
Keeping a journal of what you are doing, even for a day, is one of the most important things anyone can do for themselves. It definitely helps track what triggers in your life need to be changed. You’ll be surprised by what you learn. No more putting off until tomorrow what must be done today. Physical and mental health are the most important things in life, and sometimes, even putting things off can have detrimental effects.
Can you share three good habits that can lead to optimal performance at work or sport? Please share a story or example for each.
For myself, meditation, eating right, and organization are my three. Taking a few minutes to meditate and reflect each day helps me refocus my thoughts. Small snacks during the day are really important to keep my body’s fuel tank going, and hydration is also important. Meditation and eating healthy go hand in hand, so people should at least try them.

It’s really important to get your head in the game. Discipline is key, and that is something that is sometimes hard to achieve for anyone. Once I set my mind to something, nothing really can deter me.
Can you share three good habits that can lead to optimal focus? Please share a story or example for each.
I consider meditation to be my church. Healthy eating is also important to me. Last but not least, I find it very important to organize my day so that I can function at a high level. I keep myself grounded and focused by knowing what I want to accomplish and planning it out.
Can you help explain some practices that can be used to develop those habits?
The biggest challenge for me has to do with being organized and having a routine, so that everything you do each day is even and flowing. Getting yourself into good working habits, as well as good personal habits, is one of the most important steps you can take.
As a leader, you likely experience times when you are in a state of Flow. Flow has been described as a pleasurable mental state that occurs when you do something that you are skilled at, that is challenging, and that is meaningful. Can you share some ideas from your experience about how we can achieve a state of Flow more often in our lives?
As a result of the pandemic, many people discovered talents they didn’t even know they had. I have learned that you should go with the flow, and once you find a place you are creative and energized in, and you believe you can have a career in, lean into it and do everything you can to improve yourself. In my experience, people don’t realize life is a journey, and we will never know all the answers. But if we open ourselves up to learning, we will thrive.
Ok, we are nearly done. You are a person of great influence. If you could inspire a movement that would bring the most amount of good for the greatest number of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger.
I would like to spread awareness on how important mental hygiene is, and how important it is to achieve inner peace. I find that, especially since the pandemic, many people are overly stressed, and they need a break, but they are stuck on a ferris wheel and can’t stop for a minute to appreciate the things in life that are so important, like family and friends.
We are very blessed that some of the biggest names in Business, VC funding, Sports, and Entertainment read this column. Is there a person in the world, or in the US, whom you would love to have a private breakfast or lunch with, and why? He or she might just see this, especially if we both tag them :-)
I would love to speak with Dr. Anthony Fauci. He is carrying a heavy burden, serving as the head of NAID and attempting to navigate us through this pandemic crisis. It would be interesting to hear what he predicts for this world in the next few years, with the virus mutating so much.
