All decisions in a school should start and end with the thought: “Will this benefit our students?” It is important for teachers to remember that they must remember to look after themselves and not push themselves too hard. A good analogy is in first aid where the advice is that anyone looking to help someone else must first make sure that they are safe and well themselves. Otherwise, they won’t be able to help very effectively. In schools, teachers will struggle to support the wellbeing of their students if they themselves are struggling with their physical or mental health.
