Set a good example. It will be hard to enforce rules that we don’t follow ourselves. If you don’t want them looking at their phone constantly, don’t just tell them — show them! It’s important to set an example and be mindful of one’s own relationship with technology. We have previously asked parents to evaluate their children’s use of technology (using a scale of different criteria), and we have asked children to do the same of their parents. This is a good exercise to understand how each views the other and can be a great place to start conversations about healthy technology use in your home.
