Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. The skin is your body’s largest organ and it is mostly water. Proper hydration flushes toxins and keeps the skin nice and plump. It’s a very simple way to help contribute to a healthier you and glowing skin!

Each day, millions strive to unlock the secrets of blemish-free, luminous skin, yet many find this goal frustratingly out of reach. In a market saturated with quick fixes and fad trends, it’s vital to cut through the noise and understand what truly works. Our skin is our largest organ and the shield between our bodies and the outside world; it deserves more than just a superficial approach. As part of this series, we had the pleasure of interviewing Gregory Dylan.

Gregory Dylan is an award-winning esthetician and beauty expert with more than 25 years of industry experience. Having worked with esteemed brands and retailers such as Dr. Dennis Gross, Tria Beauty, Rodial, Nordstrom, and Sephora, Gregory’s expansive knowledge and skill allow him to treat all skin types with glowing results. Gregory launched his first product in the Gregory Dylan Skincare line in 2019, a glow-getting, anti-fatigue serum called Skin Slept In®, which quickly became a client favorite. Now featuring nine products, the line reflects his professional knowledge and client-centric approach, with formulas designed to address diverse skincare needs. Gregory’s expertise and namesake products have been featured in numerous media outlets, including E! News, Bravo, Shoutout LA, Refinery29, Bustle, CBS News Los Angeles, Flaunt, and Glam.

Thank you so much for joining us in this interview series. Before we dive into our discussion about networking, our readers would love to “get to know you” a bit better. Can you share with us the backstory about what brought you to your specific career path?

I have always been enamored with beauty, ever since I was young. I grew up seeing all of the beautiful displays in the cosmetics department and reading all the latest trends in Vogue magazine (Yes — I was the sixth grader with Vogue in my backpack! Lol). Later on in high school, I worked in a salon part time. It was there that I learned what an esthetician was and I was hooked. I became obsessed with skincare and shortly after got my license and as they say, the rest is history!

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started your career?

One experience that I found so interesting and enjoyable was when I participated as a co-host on a couple of home shopping networks. It was so fast paced and exciting. It really honed my skills for on-air appearances and public speaking as well as helped me to think quickly and keep conversations moving in real time. You’ve never seen a clock move so fast as when you’re on live TV — 60 minutes feels like 15. It’s quite exhilarating!

You are a successful business leader. Which three character traits do you think were most instrumental to your success? Can you please share a story or example for each?

I think first off, being unique is vital. When I started I didn’t want to have the same old beige spa with zen music. I wanted color, a vibe, like my clients were coming to my second home for their visit. It was quite different from what was around at the time and people liked it! I stayed true to my vision and kept my brand authentic and unique to myself.

Also, resilience. One must be very very tough when you venture out on your own. It’s a lot of rejection and hardship and trial and error. It’s not for everyone. But the tough ones brave the storm and learn to fall down and get up and again. I’ve had many oops moments and WTF moments and I learned that they are part of the process. You can’t have success without failure.

Lastly, adaptability. Trends are always changing, your client base evolves. You have to stay current and learn to keep your brand moving with the times while staying true to your vision. Many times I’ve taken my old school favorite treatments and given them a little update or makeover to reflect what was “au courant”. It keeps you on your toes and keeps your offerings fresh as well!

What are your “ 5 Things Anyone Can Do to Have Healthy, Radiant, Flawless Skin”?

1 . See an esthetician! With so many different brands and treatments on the market, it can be tough for a newbie to navigate what’s worthwhile and what isn’t. Having a professional with whom you have a trusting relationship will always be beneficial. The right esthetician will vibe with you and help you achieve your goals while cutting out a lot of trial and error.

2 . SPF!! I know we estheticians sound like a broken record on this but that’s because it’s true. Daily use of an SPF will help to protect from future damage and maintain younger, healthier skin. It’s an easy and inexpensive step in any regimen that will yield great results long term.

3 . Be consistent. Think quality of regimen over quantity of products. I have clients who do 3, maybe 4 products twice a day and their skin looks great! On the other hand, I have clients who have 6 or 7 steps that they only do a few times a week and naturally they don’t get the same results. Start with the basics and build from there. Remember, skincare is twice a day!

4 . Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. The skin is your body’s largest organ and it is mostly water. Proper hydration flushes toxins and keeps the skin nice and plump. It’s a very simple way to help contribute to a healthier you and glowing skin!

5 . Peels! If you haven’t tried one, put it on your must-try list for 2025. Don’t let the P word scare you, it’s just how we refer to chemical exfoliation. But a stand alone peel can address a multitude of concerns from lines and wrinkles to pigment and acne. I have performed a variety of them over the years and they are certainly skincare superstars that yield amazing results! (Of course, leave this to the professionals and don’t try this at home!)

What are the most common misconceptions about daily skincare routines that prevent people from achieving radiant skin?

I think the biggest misconception is that a skincare regimen needs to be many many steps and complicated. It doesn’t. It can be simple and effective with just a few products. As I mentioned before, it’s about consistency. I always suggest starting simple and working up to more products or steps so as not to get overwhelmed.

Could you share your insights on how diet and nutrition directly affect skin health, and perhaps suggest some superfoods for skin radiance?

Oh I am a big fan of a healthy diet! A colorful diet filled with antioxidant rich foods like leafy greens and vegetables will certainly contribute to a more glowing complexion. In addition to fruits and veggies, foods rich in essential fatty acids are also vital for skin health. Adding in fish like salmon and healthy snacks like nuts will help provide extra EFA’s into your diet.

How do you recommend individuals tailor their skincare routine to address the unique needs of their skin type and environment?

The easiest way to fine tune a regimen in my option is by adding in serums. Serums are power packed and targeted treatments that you can use to address key concerns and easily add in to your regimen. For example, one might add a hyaluronic serum during winter months when it’s dryer or perhaps in a more arid climate like the desert. On the other hand, when it gets warmer in the summer and skin tends to be a bit oilier, a clarifying or exfoliating serum can help reduce congestion and breakout.

What advances in skincare science or new ingredients are you most excited about that promise to enhance skin health and radiance?

I am currently seeing some great results with the use of stem cells in both retail and professional products. I’m enjoying using them with nano-infusion to maximize penetration and efficacy. I would expect to see this category grow in the near future and become even more of a focus in the marketplace. The home care devices have also improved greatly and are fantastic compliments to regular facial treatments and product regimen.

Can you describe a holistic approach to skincare that encompasses not just topical treatments but also lifestyle and wellness practices?

Anything you can do to help relieve stress and provide times of peace and calm will help your complexion. Your skin is tell-tale of how you live your life. I can tell a client has been stressed as soon as I see them. Prioritizing exercise and proper sleep and practicing mindfulness like medication or yoga will no doubt lend to a healthy glow.

You are a person of great influence. If you could start a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. :-)

I think if I were to encourage a movement it would be for people to show more kindness. It’s a crazy world we live in and general kindness for others is often overlooked as life gets so demanding and busy. Giving someone a little smile and brightening their day can go really far and it’s so easy to do!
