Rising Music Star Fifidiny On The Five Things You Need To Shine In The Music Industry

--

You will need someone to provide you mentorship and reassurance and to give you honest feedback and pick you up when you are down.. you can’t handle it all alone.

As a part of our interview series with leaders, stars, and rising stars in the music industry, we had the distinct pleasure of interviewing Fifidiny.

Fifidiny is a singer/Songwriter of Edinburgh Scotland. She released her debut single “I Am Here” back in September 2020 which received airplay on BBC radio Scotland, BBC music introducing, Amazing radio and Radio Orange Vienna a few weeks into the release, as new artist on the Scottish music scene, personally this is an achievement that only new artist can.

‘I Am Here’ is available on all streaming platforms as well as an acoustic version of the song, to give it a different perspective and to go back to the laid back written style when Fifidiny first drafted the song in her bedroom. When asked to why she chose the song as her debut, Fifidiny explained that the title of the song was a strong start as not only to make a statement that she is here but to send out a message that even when a relationship doesn’t end up the way they should, to allow the option to remain in someone’s life. ‘What We Had’ is Fifidiny’s follow up single, which was released in April of this year. It is also available on all streaming services and received a feature on BBC Radio Scotland and Amazing Radio.

Recently, Fifidiny has been back to the studio with her producers and have completed recording her debut EP which is due out in 2023 after receiving some funding from Creative Scotland.

Creative Scotland also funded 3 music videos in which 2 of the three videos have been filmed and the first one was released on the 19th of October 2022. and is available for visual stream on YouTube, Vevo, Tidal and Amazon Music.

Thank you so much for joining us in this interview series! Before we dive in, our readers would love to learn a bit about your “origin story”. Can you tell us the story of how you grew up?

Since the age of 7, I have shown a high interest for music after watching Shania Twain and Tina Turner on music channels, I new from there that music was a path I would be happy to take and I would started singing songs and changing the lyrics to try and make them to make it kind of my own.

Can you share a story with us about what brought you to this specific career path?

At the age of 16 I went to college and studied music performance after being pushed out of my final year and I have done music ever since.

Can you tell us the most interesting story that happened to you since you began your career?

Probably getting my music played on national radio and realizing that my music has potential.

It has been said that our mistakes can be our greatest teachers. Can you share a story about the funniest mistake you made when you were first starting? Can you tell us what lesson you learned from that?

I would say that having a public email allows potential scammers to attempt to contact you with unbelievable and so realistic offers that requires you do provide personal information, I got one saying that Steve Mccurry Photography wanted to work with me on an ADIDAS campaign and yeah I got excited — I soon checked the email and it was just not an official email account, so now I will also make sure that it was a very close call.

What are some of the most interesting or exciting projects you are working on now?

It has to be my debut EP which will be released at some point next year, (2023) that’s funded by Creative Scotland. I plan to arrange a mini tour and release my second music video. I really do feel excited to share more of my work and the current opportunities that are coming.

We are very interested in diversity in the entertainment industry. Can you share three reasons with our readers about why you think it’s important to have diversity represented in music, film, and television? How can that potentially affect our culture?

Diversity is very important to me as it allows people of various background, culture and protected characteristics to feel included and to have hope they can achieve their goals by having someone they can relate to represents them in the industry.

What are your “5 things I wish someone told me when I first started” and why? Please share a story or example for each.

1. Your family and friends are not you fans, so do be disappointed when they don’t show up.

2. It’s going to be a lonely journey, not everyone will understand your chosen path

3. You will face a lot of rejection and highs and low, it’s a competitive industry

4. You will need someone to provide you mentorship and reassurance and to give you honest feedback and pick you up when you are down.. you can’t handle it all alone.

5. Trust the process, if you can’t see yourself not doing what you want to do, you need to keep going. Your time is coming if you don’t see it ever ending.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

Take your time, enjoy the process and your personal development and learn from other peoples achievements but don’t compare yourself to them. Everyone story is different and what works for them might not work for you. You are talented and just remember to why you want to be a creative field in the first place.

You are a person of enormous influence. If you could inspire a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. :-)

Being kind and respectful to others. And accepting other people’s differences.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story about that?

I would say my first music tutor in Alness college that really believed I me and pushed me when I lacked confidence, Creative Scotland for funding my projects and my present tutors at Perth UHI for guiding me and helping me to achieve my future goals.

Can you please give us your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share how that was relevant to you in your life?

‘Feel The Fear and Do It Anyways’ — Has to be my favorite quote, as in life you can be given a very scary opportunity that can impact your life for the best and you can’t let the fear be in the way of that. Life is full of scary unexpected adventures but you just have to, DO IT!

Is there a person in the world, or in the US whom you would love to have a private breakfast or lunch with, and why? He or she might just see this, especially if we tag them. :-)

Beyonce! She is on another level and has the experience and knowledge that I could only dream.

How can our readers follow you online?

You can find me on my socials, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, Spotify, Amazon music, Apple music, Tidal @Fifidiny.

This was very meaningful, thank you so much! We wish you continued success!

And thank you for having me.
