Be sure that your mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies are balanced and in positive states of health and well-being. From an energetic perspective, the physical body is the last to manifest negativity and will reflect the health of the other three bodies. If you have decades of poor mental, emotional, or spiritual health, it leaves the physical body vulnerable to illness and chronic conditions. This is because energy never leaves, it only changes and goes deeper in an attempt to get your attention. The last place it can go is to the physical body and is often a root cause of disease later in life.

Often when we refer to wellness, we assume that we are talking about physical wellbeing. But one can be physically very healthy but still be unwell, emotionally or mentally. What are the steps we can take to cultivate optimal wellness in all areas of our life; to develop Mental, Physical, Emotional, & Spiritual Wellbeing? As a part of our series about “How We Can Cultivate Our Mental, Physical, Emotional, & Spiritual Wellbeing”, we had the pleasure of interviewing Patty Oliver.

Patty is a transformational energy healer and spiritual advisor. For the past 14 years she has helped clients around the world align to their soul blueprint and manifest abundance by clearing karma in their Akashic Record and teaching them to balance their chakras and manage their energy field. She has created several online courses on energy healing and Akashic Records, and also offers private soul coaching.

Patty is a featured columnist in several publications writing about energy healing, Akashic Records and soul empowerment. She has contributed to a multi-author book titled “Intuitive: Speaking her Truth” which is available on Amazon, and has recently released “Akashic Truth Oracle,” an oracle card deck connecting you to the wisdom of your Akashic Record.

Thank you so much for joining us in this interview series! Before we dive into the main focus of our interview, our readers would love to “get to know you” a bit better. Can you tell us a bit about your childhood backstory?

I grew up in the Midwest, with lots of family nearby. It seemed like we were always celebrating a holiday or someone’s birthday! It was a fun and carefree time. We were not a religious family, and the term “spiritual” was not one that I heard very often! But I always felt that we had to be more than just this one body in this one lifetime, and maybe that is what sparked my interest in wanting to learn more about what lay beyond our physical experience.

What or who inspired you to pursue your career? We’d love to hear the story.

I can honestly say that I never consciously set out to have a career as an energy healer, especially one who deals with past lives and Akashic Records! While I was interested in that sort of thing, I had no idea that I could actually make a living at it. Remember, I was brought up with Midwest values: go to school, get a good-paying desk job, and raise a family. At least that’s how it was growing up in the 1970s and 80s. And, that was the trajectory of my life for a long while, until I hit my early 40s and was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had two young children at the time and while I loved being a mother, I needed something else in my life that I was passionate about. I decided it was time to make myself a priority and follow my passions.

So, after cancer treatment, I went to esthetics school to become a skincare professional and opened a skincare spa in my local community. Less than a month later, I was introduced to an energy healer, and it completely changed my life! I felt it was a fated meeting; I just knew I had to study energy work and add it to my business, which is exactly what I did. Fast-forward a few years and I had more clients coming to me for energy work than I could handle, so I decided to sell the skincare business and focus full-time on energy healing. That’s when I started to realize that I was intuitive and could sense what was happening energetically and spiritually with my clients. Then I started accessing their past lives during healing sessions, which led me to discover the Akashic Records — the record of the soul. So much healing can take place in one’s Akashic Record, and it has been the primary focus of my career ever since.

None of us can achieve success without some help along the way. Was there a particular person who you feel gave you the most help or encouragement to be who you are today? Can you share a story about that?

My mother is the one who gave me the most encouragement. I come from a long line of women who put themselves second and third behind their husbands and children. While it was admirable, I also know something was missing from their lives. The women of previous generations were not encouraged to have a career and build fulfillment beyond family. So, when I decided I wanted more for myself, my mother became my biggest cheerleader! She didn’t make me feel guilty at all for trying to juggle family and business, and she was always there if I needed childcare. She even helped me start the business financially, and I have always been grateful for that.

I also want to acknowledge all the mentors I had along the way. Whether it was just to share business knowledge and expertise, or more formal training and support, I had many people — mostly women — who were willing to help me and see me win without expecting anything in return, so I try to pay it forward when I can

Can you share the funniest or most interesting mistake that occurred to you in the course of your career? What lesson or take away did you learn from that?

I believe that moment came shortly after I started my energy healing work. Once I realized I was intuitive, I started sharing what I was receiving intuitively with my clients during their sessions. One client had come to me for multiple sessions to try to discover the root cause of the debilitating migraines she suffered from. During one of our sessions, I received very vivid insight into a personal situation that she had apparently never told anyone about. She was so upset with what I shared with her that she abruptly left the session, and I didn’t hear from her for almost two months, which was unusual. I thought for sure that I had crossed a line and, in doing so, had lost a very good client. I was upset for weeks about it and wondered if I should just quit doing healing work. Then one day out of the blue, she showed up at my office. She said she needed time to process what I had shared with her since it was so personal in nature, and she also wanted to let me know that ever since that session, she never experienced another migraine! I was so excited for her, and relieved to know that sharing my intuitive gift was the best choice I could have made for myself. It taught me that it was necessary to speak my truth at all times, something I also teach my students and clients.

Is there a particular book that made a significant impact on you? Can you share a story or explain why it resonated with you so much?

“The Power of Intention” by Wayne Dyer. It was the first book I had read about how to create the life you desire by managing your energy field through conscious intention. It was while I was still attending esthetics school that I came across one of his audio books. I had a long commute back and forth to school, so I bought some audio books to listen to on the drive. I wanted something inspirational, so I looked through the self-help section at the bookstore and found some. The things he had to say were like nothing I had heard before, and really made me stop and think about how I had been living my life up to that point, which was to live for everyone else or to meet the expectations of others. After being so moved by his audio book, I went back to the bookstore to find one of his physical books to read, and I was immediately drawn to “The Power of Intention,” because my choice to go back to school at age 42 was a conscious and deliberate intention to find more meaning and fulfillment in my life. I felt it was another synchronicity, a sign from the universe that I was on the right track. I devoured that book in just a few nights, and it began my quest to read as much as I could about managing your energy field. It was not long after that I met that energy healer, and again I knew it was the direction I had to go with my career.

Can you share your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Why does that resonate with you so much?

“When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” This is also a quote from Wayne Dyer, and it was from that first audio book that I listened to on the drive to and from school! When I heard him say that, I almost had to stop the car and pull over because I was so stunned by such a simple phrase. It never dawned on me that I could look at the situations in my life differently! I didn’t have to agree with family members just because they were family. I didn’t have to continue being angry or hurt by something someone said, because I could choose to change my perspective on it. I didn’t have to be brought down by having breast cancer, I could change the way I looked at it and see it as a positive and not a negative. That one phrase gave me what I had been looking for, which was permission to take charge of how I wanted to live my life without having to please others, which was a paradigm shift in my thinking.

What are some of the most interesting or exciting projects you are working on now? How do you think that might help people?

After doing individual healing work for more than a decade, I decided I needed to reach more people with the message of self-healing and self-empowerment, so I created my online course on how to access your Akashic Record for insight, healing, and guidance. I also write for several publications as well as working on a book. I recently released an oracle card deck called The Akashic Truth Oracle, which helps you discover your karma or blocked energy you might be blind to. All these projects are in support of my desire for others to know their ability to heal and empower themselves.

OK, thank you for all of that. Let’s now shift to the core focus of our interview. In this interview series we’d like to discuss cultivating wellness habits in four areas of our lives: Mental wellness, Physical wellness, Emotional wellness, & Spiritual wellness. Let’s dive deeper into these together. Based on your research or experience, can you share with our readers three good habits that can lead to optimum mental wellness? Please share a story or example for each.

Everything in the universe starts as a thought. Before anything comes into existence, it starts as a thought or an idea that then gets acted upon. So, thoughts are directly related to what we create in our lives, positive or negative. This is why having a positive mindset, and the ability to return to a positive mindset when challenges arise, is critical to your ability to see your potential and change your life accordingly. Here are three good habits that can lead to optimum mental wellness:

  1. Bring awareness to your thoughts. Thoughts are simply events that take place at the mental level based on any number of influences including hunger, fatigue, hormones, or simply out of habit. Often, they come from our subconscious or unconscious mind. You are not a slave to your thoughts, because your thoughts are not you. And you can choose to follow your thoughts or not. Once we become aware of our thoughts, we can take action to manage them.
  2. Recognize negative self-talk for what it is. When you start a cycle of negative self-talk, you start to judge yourself and that inner critic begins to take over. It starts to feed on itself because everything is energy, and negative thoughts have a lower frequency which can make you feel anxious, angry, or depressed. Remind yourself that you have the power to change your thoughts at any time, and then take action to do so.
  3. Become neutral to negative thoughts and then reframe them to the positive. This combines habits one and two! When you have a negative thought, you want to first become aware of it, recognize that it is just a thought that you have the power to change, and then stop the flow of negativity by replacing it with a more empowered thought in its place. For example, maybe you have a negative thought that you are not smart. That is the time to stop yourself and interrupt the thought by bringing awareness to it. Then remind yourself of a time you came up with a clever solution to a problem. You have just invalidated that negative thought and shifted it to one with a higher frequency and vibration.

Do you have a specific type of meditation practice or Yoga practice that you have found helpful? We’d love to hear about it.

Whenever I need to change my energy, I often turn to meditation, yoga and deep breathing. In particular, I like to focus on the chakras, which are the 7 main energy centers of the body. Each chakra gives energy to certain parts of the body and can become blocked from the negative energy of our thoughts and emotions as well as our physical and spiritual states of being. I like to do yoga stretches such as child pose, downward facing dog and warrior poses to release stuck energy. I then sit cross-legged and take 3–4 deep breaths, in through the nose and out through the mouth. Then I recite a simple meditation to balance each chakra:

  • I am safe, loved and supported (1st chakra)
  • I am creative, healthy, and abundant (2nd chakra)
  • I am confident. I am worthy and deserving of abundance (3rd chakra)
  • I honor myself and have healthy boundaries with others (4th chakra)
  • I speak my truth at all times (5th chakra)
  • I am wise and intuitive (6th chakra)
  • I am empowered and connected to Source (7th chakra)

Thank you for that. Can you share three good habits that can lead to optimum physical wellness? Please share a story or example for each.

  2. Uphold strong boundaries with others. Don’t fall prey to those who want to take advantage of you and take your energy. When you are drained of energy, you leave yourself vulnerable to poor physical health! Create equal give and take in your relationships and don’t allow others to treat you with disrespect. Every relationship is an exchange of energy, but it’s up to us as individuals to ensure that it is equal and balanced.
  3. Develop radical self-care. It’s not selfish — it’s necessary! This means eating healthy food, drinking plenty of water, getting enough rest, and exercising. Ditch any bad habits like drinking or smoking and surround yourself with people who love and support you. Make time for rest and relaxation.

Do you have any particular thoughts about healthy eating? We all know that it’s important to eat more vegetables, eat less sugar, etc. But while we know it intellectually, it’s often difficult to put it into practice and make it a part of our daily habits. In your opinion what are the main blockages that prevent us from taking the information that we all know, and integrating it into our lives?

There’s a phrase that reads “You are what you eat,” and I absolutely believe this. Junk in equals junk out and there’s no getting around that. Unfortunately, it’s very easy to hit the drive-through or survive on caffeine or energy drinks, but your physical, mental, and emotional health will pay for it later.

I think the main blockage to healthy eating is the willingness to make it a priority and the discipline to stick to it. Eating healthy can take more time and energy because you must plan your menus, shop for groceries, and then prep your meals. If you are short on time, there are meal delivery services and tons of sources on the internet for meal planning and prep. You also need to have healthy snacks on hand for when you are out and about or know you might be late getting your next meal. I also feel there is a perception that it costs more to eat healthy, but it can actually save you money in the long run, especially if you are willing to prepare your meals yourself. Lastly, there is no reason to deprive yourself. It’s okay to indulge once in a while without feeling guilty or throwing your entire healthy eating routine out the window.

Can you share three good habits that can lead to optimum emotional wellness? Please share a story or example for each.

  1. Welcome your emotional triggers, as they are opportunities for growth. If you ever wonder where to start your healing journey, take a hard look at your emotional triggers. Never ignore them, because they represent an unhealed part of you that is holding you back from creating the joy and abundance you deserve. Since I work with past lives and Akashic Records, emotional triggers are often karmic patterns that started lifetimes ago and are still happening in this current lifetime because they remain unresolved. The universal laws of karma state that a negative pattern will persist until balanced out by new empowered action, even if it requires multiple lifetimes to do so. Karmic patterns also contribute to negative thoughts, so mental and emotional well-being often go together. When you come upon a trigger, that is the time to stop yourself from following through on a subconscious or unconscious reaction by bringing awareness to the fact that it needs to be healed.
  2. Shift from unconscious reaction to empowered response. Once you bring awareness to the fact that you are reacting to an emotional trigger, you can validate why you chose it in the past. Remind yourself of why you chose the negative reaction to begin with, which was probably for emotional survival at the time. But you no longer need the negative reaction and can now create a new empowered response in its place.
  3. Support your new empowered response with positive affirmations. Remind yourself of your own empowerment and ability to create your life on your terms. Saying them out loud is even better! Phrases like “I surround myself with those who are loving and supportive,” or “I love myself just as I am and do not need the approval of others.”

Do you have any particular thoughts about the power of smiling to improve emotional wellness? We’d love to hear it.

I believe in the power of “acting as if,” and I would say smiling to improve your emotional state falls into that category. However, you never want to smile to avoid negativity. Remember to always validate what you are feeling and bring awareness to it. Smiling can help your body feel more positive and more energized, which is ultimately a good thing in shifting from an unconscious reaction to an empowered response.

Finally, can you share three good habits that can lead to optimum spiritual wellness? Please share a story or example for each.

I like to say that we are spirits having a human experience — it’s not the other way around! Each of us is an energy being inhabiting a physical body for a relatively short period of time. We come in with our energetic blueprints that define our strengths, our personalities, and the experiences we will have. We also come in with karma in place, and karma is the energy of choices you made in previous lifetimes that did not serve soul growth and evolution and is in need of being balanced out through new empowered action. Your karma, therefore, dictates the family you will be born into, the circumstances of your life, and the challenges you will face. So here are my three good habits for optimum spiritual wellness.

  1. Learn to access your Akashic Record. Your karma can be objectively understood in your Akashic Record, which is why I’m so passionate about teaching others how to access it intuitively! Once you understand your karma and why you initially created it, you can begin to resolve it once and for all. Karma tends to be all the repeating patterns you can’t seem to overcome, such as money problems, relationship drama or health challenges. We are often blind to our karma because we tend to make the same choices out of habit without really thinking of why we are doing it. Your Akashic Record can help you become aware of negative patterns and how to change them.
  2. Learn to connect with your higher mind, often referred to as your Higher Self. As spirits having a human experience, there is a part of our energy that stays on the other side of the veil and is in constant communication with us in subtle ways. This is your Higher Self. You can think of it as your intuition or that little voice that speaks to you, giving you insight and nudging you to take a certain path. Your Higher Self has been with you through each of your incarnations and knows the lessons you’ve chosen. While it can influence you, it cannot interfere with your free will. The best way to connect with your Higher Self is through meditation; set the intention to connect with your Higher Self, your spirit guides or any other spiritual assistant that you wish to begin communicating with. It may take time, but once you receive those nudges and inspirations and begin to follow them, you will know that you are being divinely guided to your highest potential at all times.
  3. Follow your passions and inspirations. Each of us has a gift to share with the world, and your purpose is to find and use your gift to create your highest joy. Joy is the highest vibration you can embody, and you do that by following your passions. Give yourself permission to express yourself authentically and to do the things that make you happy. As you do so, you will attract the right people and circumstances into your space to help you succeed, opening your flow of abundance.

Do you have any particular thoughts about how being “in nature” can help us to cultivate spiritual wellness?

Spending time in nature is a form of grounding, which means connecting to the energy of the earth. It can have powerful restorative effects on the physical body such as the reduction of stress, and improved sleep. It also pulls you back into the present moment and reminds you of the physical experience your soul came here to have, and that you are here to contribute your gifts to the collective. Anything you can do to improve your mental, emotional and physical health will have a positive impact on your spiritual wellbeing.

Ok, we are nearly done. You are a person of great influence. If you could inspire a movement that would bring the most amount of good for the greatest number of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger.

I would love to inspire a movement of self-empowerment. Everyone needs to know they have the power to change the direction of their lives at any moment by simply making a new choice. When you empower yourself, you raise your vibration and change what can flow to you as a result. This is the magic of living in the third dimension, which is learning to manage your energy to attract the results you desire. That energy is fed into the collective consciousness, and every living being on the planet will benefit. It’s universal law and cannot be any other way. This is also why I’m so passionate about my work in the Akashic Records, because I believe it is the most powerful spiritual tool available to each of us to manage our energy and manifest abundance, and why I created a course on how to do this.

We are very blessed that some of the biggest names in Business, VC funding, Sports, and Entertainment read this column. Is there a person in the world, or in the US, whom you would love to have a private breakfast or lunch with, and why? He or she might just see this, especially if we both tag them :-)

One person I admire and follow is Dr. Joe Dispenza. His work on heart coherence has had a profound impact on so many people around the world by helping them recognize their empowerment and ability to heal themselves.
