I had the pleasure of interviewing Inc named Founder Enrico Frezza and his husband leaders in innovation changing up the market. His personal struggle with acne led him to create products that actually work — Peace Out Skincare. This 3-time Sephora Best Seller revolutionizes acne care with easy 1-step unisex skincare solutions, combining simple ingredients and innovative technology.

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

My own personal struggle with acne lead to develop Peace Out. I suffered from severe acne in my pre-teen and teenage years for which I took Accutane which helped but it never truly fixed my acne issues. Into my late teens and twenties I was still suffering from occasional breakouts some break outs were small some were big each time I broke out it took me right back to my teenage years and the emotionally helpless feeling acne gives you when you break out. Fed up with not being able to find a solution for my occasional breakouts at the drug store, over the counter or at my dermatologist I decided to make it my mission to find a solution for the occasional breakout. That mission became my passion and over a two-year period I immersed myself in finding a solution, I knew nothing about chemistry, hydrocolloid bandages or mixing ingredients to form an active treatment and solution but I knew I could make this happen so I educated myself, I researched and reached out to every lab, every company I could to learn and understand how everything works. Those two years lead to developing the first Peace Out Acne batch. I turned my bathroom and kitchen into a lab, I tested everything first on myself then a few friends and then expanded out from there and once I was convinced, I had found the right path I produced the first actual 100% perfected Peace Out Acne Dot

Can you share your story of Grit and Success? First can you tell us a story about the hard times that you faced when you first started your journey?

I was a cyber security expert with no prior knowledge of skincare when I took on this quest to create a one-step easy to use solution for his breakouts. I self-taught myself the world of skincare, chemicals, ingredients, patch technology. I burned off layers of my own skin using myself as a test subject. Once so bad it left a perfect square patch on my forehead minus 2 layers of my own skin the day before I was leaving to a family wedding. I was told Peace Out Acne could never be made by every beauty manufacturer and lab I spoke to until I found the one place in the world that could make Peace Out, and it was just 45 mins from my house. A medical product manufacturing company was my golden ticket solution and from their Peace Out was mixed together with hydrocolloid bandages and the first ever Acne Dot with active ingredients was born. You don’t realize just how much a passion and mission can take over every part of your life and your family’s lives, its 24–7. Once you’re in deep there is not turning back. You have to finish, success was my only focus. The stress is a killer, the sleepless nights, locking yourself away 24–7 working, the constant testing over and over again, lawyers, patents, financials, creating the brand A-Z, choosing a name!!

Where did you get the drive to continue even though things were so hard?

I could not have pulled off Peace Out without the incredible support of my family, friends and my husband who championed me to “GET IT DONE”. I can personally tell you, I don’t know how people can do this alone. I could not have done it without my husband and the champions I had, that I could count on to be there through the fails, all the stress, the madness, the need to let off steam, to sit there patiently listening while I fulfilled my need to discuss and review for hours and hours challenges that day, snap me out of it when I am doubting yourself.

So, how are things going today? :-)

Things are going awesome today! We are getting ready to launch our 4th first to market product which is incredibly exciting, I just left our CMO and marketing team who took me through the social media, press, advertising, e-commerce, retail and events launch strategy. Which I am super psyched about! I have an incredible team!

Can you share a story about the funniest mistake you made when you were first starting? Can you tell us what lesson you learned from that? The funniest mistakes I made in the beginning mostly involved me harming myself testing products that I mixed at home in my bathroom lab. It goes something like this, I wake up with an idea I go to the drug store, I go to the medical store, I go gather any additional ingredients I need, I come home I mix it together and slap the mix and patch on my face, forget I have it on because I get sucked into another task, I realize I have left the patch on all and remove layers and layers of skin off my face or body with the patch. Leaving what I pray will not become a scar.

What do you think makes your company stand out? Can you share a story?

Peace Outs company culture is based on the brands ethos of “You be You” and “Have a kickass time being you”. The office environment we created for the team was specifically designed to create a bright, textured, fun and energetic creative co-working space for a creative team that is super passionate about beauty and skincare. Our team is made up of multi-faceted individuals who wanted to be part of a fast paced rapidly growing, skincare influencing start up that gives them the opportunity to collaborate, grow, learn and expand in the areas they love from Social Media, Marketing, Operations, Brand Education to in-house Content creation. We built a full in house creative studio so the team could create on the spot content.

Our full team actively takes part in making, producing, concepting and curating content for all of Peace Outs needs.

For our last brand and product photoshoot the full team took part in the concept and creative direction, model selection, styling, day of shoot madness, final image selection all the way to the final retouching of all images.

Individuality, collaboration, having a voice, team work, loving your job, growth and development was and is what we strive to provide our employees, it was a big priority when we began building the brands identify and ethos. We want our team to love being a part of Peace Out and the work they do for Peace Out.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

Do something that you’re truly passionate and obsessed about. To be honest I think being an entrepreneur in today’s world it’s basically impossible to unplug and avoiding burnout it’s mostly inevitable with that said it’s important to understand when you feel at the burnout stage that you take a little time to disconnect and do something that takes your mind off everything. For me date nights, working out and occasional fun dinners with friends were and are essential to reset myself back to normal.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

My husband was definitely the person I am most grateful towards. He was my champion from day 1 and through the up and downs of the crazy roller coaster of launching a new company his positive energy and support were crucial.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

Our brand is about positivity and we encourage positivity and through our social media platforms we work hard to convey our mission to make people feel more secure with selves.

What are your “5 things I wish someone told me before I started my company” and why. Please share a story or example for each.

1- Getting help is hard — Finding the right people to help you through the hard times it’s not easy. At the beginning when you’re envisioning an idea everyone is excited but when it comes down to actually work to make that idea a reality it’s not easy to get the help you need.

2- Pay attention to details — Details it’s what makes you stand out and it’s essential to pay attention to them.

3- Hiring great people is hard -

4- Learn as much as you can on corporate law & accounting

5- It’s always harder than what you can possibly imagine

You are a person of great influence. If you could start a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. :-)

I would start a movement called RAOK (RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS) where we daily as a whole preform 1 RAOK to a person, family, organization something that you are passionate about or just an act you stumble into..Paying for coffee, buying someone a sandwhich, help a person complete a task they might be struggling to complete. The littlest acts of kindess can launch the largest frequency of positive enrgy into the world causing a ripple effect of kindess.
