…right away my mind went to: life begins at the end of your comfort zone. This has always been one of my favorite life lesson quotes and I refer back to it anytime I’m scared to get out of my comfort zone. It reminds me of all the times I did get out of my comfort zone and how my life grew because of that. I just think this quote is so relevant and so true!

a part of my series about strong women leaders in the cannabis industry, I had the pleasure of interviewing Allie Mirosevic.

Allie is the founder of Bliss’d Bath Co, a self-care company that makes CBD-infused bath salts (with more CBD products in the works). As a wellness enthusiast, she believes in a balanced and accessible approach to self-care. Allie shares her passion and knowledge through Bliss’d, where she aims to inspire everyone on the importance of self-care and self-love for overall health & happiness. A Chicago-native, she now lives by the beach in Los Angeles with her husband and 10-month old son.

Thank you so much for doing this with us! Can you tell us the “backstory” about what brought you to the cannabis industry?

course! On a personal level, I’ve had an interest in cannabis (particularly CBD) for a few years. My husband introduced it to me, as he worked in the industry. I began using it in very small doses to help with some anxiety and sleep issues before bedtime. The effects were really subtle but impactful, they made a huge difference. That peaked my interest in CBD in general and I just started researching it and chatting with my husband about other benefits, especially topical. I was already making my own bath salts (a weekly soak has always been a part of my self-care practice) so I began to add CBD to my bath salts and found that it really elevated all the benefits — and more quickly than just using regular bath salts!

Do you have a funny story about how someone you knew reacted when they first heard you were getting into the cannabis industry?

I think my husband paved the way for me, at least among our family and friends, since he was already working in the industry! People who know me weren’t surprised to hear that I took a component of cannabis and worked it into a business highlighting my love and passion for wellness and self-care. I think living in California also helps minimize any stigma attached to working in the industry — most people I tell are excited to try the product!

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

I’m extremely grateful towards my husband. It might sound cliche but he’s supported me the entire way. He’s been a sounding board for ideas and a wealth of knowledge (as it relates to cannabis, and business in general)! He really understands the science behind cannabis and CBD so that’s been helpful for breaking it down (in an easy way) as it relates to understanding the benefits. I can say — oh I’m feeling better, more relaxed, less tense… and he can break it down as to why. So that’s been helpful!

Are you working on any new or exciting projects now? How do you think that will help people?

Yes! I have two additional CBD-infused products I’m developing for topical use. I have the new mama and busy woman in mind. These products will still deliver all the benefits of CBD and provide the same at-home spa-like experience — but no soaking required. I totally get that not everyone has time for a bath so I’m really excited about these products because they’ll help women feel better in a way that allows them to maximize whatever time they have for themselves.

Ok. Thank you for all that. Let’s now jump to the main core of our interview. Despite great progress that has been made we still have a lot more work to do to achieve gender parity in this industry. According to this report in Entrepreneur, less than 25 percent of cannabis businesses are run by women. In your opinion or experience, what 3 things can be done by a)individuals b)companies and/or c) society to support greater gender parity moving forward?

Sure thing! I’d love to see some of the larger and more established companies in the industry roll out more training and educational programs for women specific to the industry itself. I also think companies could strengthen their recruitment process and strategy to hire great women at all levels from the start — with the thought that these women will grow into leadership roles. I also like the idea of a referral program, where perhaps there’s a higher referral bonus for employees who refer a woman hired into the company. In terms of what falls on the individual — I think finding a mentor or role-model is so helpful and important. Ideally someone in the organization who can provide advice and help champion on the person’s behalf.

You are a “Cannabis Insider”. Can you share 3 things that most excite you about the cannabis industry?

I’m really excited by the medicinal and wellness properties of CBD and cannabis. I love natural solutions to self-care and CBD/cannabis is definitely one of those solutions! The growth opportunities are limitless right now, there are so many cool new products and services popping up so I think that’s exciting — new brands to partner with and learn from! I am also excited for this industry to become even more normalized… and I think that will continue to happen with time, as more companies enter the market and even more science comes out on the benefits!

Can you share 3 things that most concern you about the industry? If you had the ability to implement 3 ways to reform or improve the industry, what would you suggest?

My biggest concern is that each state creates their own laws when it comes to cannabis. I’d love to see universal laws across all states, which is why we need some kind of federal regulation. The banking aspect of the industry as well — it’s still such a grey area, even for legal businesses. So again — that goes back to a federal umbrella, because that would positively impact the regulations around banking too. And black market sales is a concern as well — it just makes it that much harder for a business to be successful if people keep going to the black market!

What are your thoughts about federal legalization of cannabis? If you could speak to your Senator, what would be your most persuasive argument regarding why they should or should not pursue federal legalization?

This is an easy one! I think cannabis should be federally legalized and regulated. I’d really emphasize the many health benefits of cannabis and the new jobs that it would create. I have a feeling the creation of new jobs would be a pretty strong pull right now!

Today, cigarettes are legal, but they are heavily regulated, highly taxed, and they are somewhat socially marginalized. Would you like cannabis to have a similar status to cigarettes or different? Can you explain?

Definitely different! Unlike cigarettes, cannabis/CBD has medicinal and wellness benefits. While there may still be a stigma attached to cannabis, I think this is changing because of all the new initiatives and research happening in the industry. That being said, I do think that the cannabis industry has to be regulated and fairly taxed.

Can you please give us your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share how that was relevant to you in your life?

I have a lot but right away my mind went to: life begins at the end of your comfort zone. This has always been one of my favorite life lesson quotes and I refer back to it anytime I’m scared to get out of my comfort zone. It reminds me of all the times I did get out of my comfort zone and how my life grew because of that. I just think this quote is so relevant and so true!

You are a person of great influence. If you could inspire a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the greatest amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. :-)

A self-care and self-love movement! Inspiring and encouraging women to make time for themselves — whether it’s 5 minutes or 5 hours — because I truly believe that taking care of ourselves from the inside out inspires and creates magic in our everyday lives. I think big (positive) change happens from little self-care and self-love habits.

Thank you so much for the time you spent with this. We wish you only continued success!
