Say Hello to Huggable Tech, our new and improved name! We’ve rebranded ourselves after the events of the Student Shark Tank.

Today me and Raymond went to the Antrepreneur Center’s first ever Lunchtime Launchpad, the idea is a guest gets invited and shares his story and expertise in a fireside chat style with anybody who wants to come.

Today’s guest was Ajay Malhotra who works at Deluxe Media as sort of a corporate job where he gets to be entrepreneurial as well. He was very well versed with the new and emerging technologies for media, and overall was very eager to help the students who showed up.

First Ever Lunctime Launchpad

As for how this helps us in the Autism Appjam, we have to make a video of our product by next Wednesday, so I asked him how to make a good video, and here was his answer:

“Lunchtime” Launchpad

After the talk, we got some free sandwiches, and pasta salad, and discussed further on the branding our idea; and networked with the people there. It’s really a small world as the people there may not be related to our project itself, but they do know people who can help, for example a speech pathologist, or someone who’s worked a lot and has a lot of experience with children, developmental psychology.

After the lunchtime launchpad we had a group meeting to discuss our roles and what we wanted to accomplish. We’ve decided instead of one person doing all the hardware, software, design, etc. We wanted each person to complete some feature from beginning to end learning a little bit from the hardware side, and software side. We’ve split the group up into two groups for now, the accelerometer group and the GPS group, when choosing the first two sensor for our bear, we chose these two as they are the easiest and tangible to see and understand in a demo.

Not only that, we have a new member! Geriboo’s lab partner Justin Toms who’s had a little bit of previous experience with arduinos before this.

We have a long way to go, but everything is going great. We found a great network of people of resources to reach out to and research; as well as great resources to help learn and develop our idea more. For example, there’s an Arduino Workshop on Thursday that we plan on attending.

Tomorrow we will be having a meeting with a professor to discuss the specific design of the idea, and how best to implement it.

So in summation, we’ve decided to use arduinos with a wifi shield, and gps and accelerometer sensors, as well as using Ruby on Rails for the web app interface portion.

More to come
