The 2018 Kona is Hyundai’s attempt to enter the blossoming mini-utility segment. Named after a Hawaiian costal region, Hyundai Kona will be seen competing against other popular utility vehicles like the Honda HR-V, Jeep Renegade, Mazda CX-3 and Toyota’s new C-HR.

The 2018 Kona is built upon a relatively new platform used by Hyundai. With this new system and new model, Hyundai expects to allure customers with urban lifestyles who fancy efficient utility vehicles.

This subcompact SUV is available in the markets of Korea, Europe, and North America. Take a look at this bold Hyundai model in any Hyundai new car showroom in Texas and Gainesville.

Design

With its aggressive class standards, the Kona is quite distinct from other recent Hyundai models. Its expressive design is highlighted by body cladding around the wheel wells that spills into the front and rear bumpers. Its short overhangs and long wheelbase gives Kona a bold and capable look. The LED headlights and taillights along with the daytime running lights and turn signals positioned just below the hood, may give Kona a fussy appearance at the first glance, especially in photos. But, if you view this beauty in a Hyundai new car showroom, you’ll realize that its more cohesive and distinctive in person.

Kona’s size is similar to most of its competitors with a length and width of 13.7 and 5.9 feet respectively. Its 102.4-inch wheelbase is right in line, as well.

Hardware

The rear suspension is based on existing configurations while the new chassis, most of which is made from Hyundai’s own high strength steel, employs a new strut suspension in front.

The Kona’s base engine is a 147-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder that utilizes Atkinson-cycle technology to maximize fuel economy. It delivers 132 pound-feet of torque at 4,500 rpm and is mated to a conventional six-speed automatic transmission. Hyundai claims a decidedly relaxed 0-to-60 mph time of 10 seconds and a top speed of 121 mph. The optional powertrain will be Hyundai’s turbocharged 1.6-liter engine, paired with a seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission.

All-wheel drive is an option available for both powertrains. With its adjustable driving modes (normal, sport and eco) that alter throttle and transmission programming, Kona provides a tight, responsive character in tight city driving. By making the best use of Hyundai motor finance, car buyers can buy the best suited Kona variant for themselves.

Gadgets

The infotainment systems in Konda include Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also includes console- based wireless charging capability. Kona will be able to tell you when your device is fully charged or if you have left it behind while exiting the vehicle. An extraordinary feature of Kona is the heads-up display which can display speed, navigation, audio info and more. It also includes a suite of safety aids like blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, forward collision warning with automated emergency braking and more.

High Tech Trappings

The interior of Kona is as attractive as the exterior. The ergonomics, control layout, and build quality are smartly done and feel great. The body colored accents around the shifter and vents add an edge to the design. The leather-trimmed interiors have matching seat belts while the lesser variants have attractive black and white houndstooth seat inserts.

Early deliveries of the Kona will arrive in the United States in early 2018. Hyundai still has to decide on the exact pricing details for US models. However, there are many Hyundai motor finance options available to help car buyers take home this bold and much needed mini-utility vehicle.
