Since 2016, the Autonomous Tenants Union (ATU) has assisted tenants in their struggles against displacement, eviction and unsafe living conditions. We target both big property owners like Silver Property Group and Barnett Capital, as well as LLPs and small-time landlords.

ATU created this map highlighting tenant resistance at dozens of properties in Albany Park and across the city to share our stories, our tactics, and that when we fight, we win! As you can imagine, this is just the tip of the iceberg, even when we concentrate our efforts in the Albany Park neighborhood.

We want other folks in the city who are interested in housing justice work to have the tools to organize against their landlords or fight gentrification in their neighborhoods. If you would like us to hold a training in your neighborhood, or would like access to some of our educational materials, just ask! You can email us at mediacmte.atu@gmail.com

Using the Map

To view the full table of contents, click the check box all the way to the left, before the title “Eviction and Resistance Mapping.” You can navigate the map by clicking on the addresses of the properties.

You can also use the map by simply clicking the home icons on the map. Many of the tenant struggles listed on the map include rich content, such as photos and video.

The Autonomous Tenants Union (ATU) is an all-volunteer organization committed to organizing for housing justice from below and to the left. As an independent collective based in Chicago, we strategize together to defend and enforce our right to dignified housing. We believe that housing is a human right not a commodity! We fight for an end to all of evictions, and for community control of housing through the building of popular power.

ATU holds monthly tenant assemblies on the 4th Saturday of each month. Asambleas are open to the public, bilingual and held from 4–6 PM at 3253 W Wilson Ave with childcare provided.
