This is an interview with Richard Brown, Founder and CEO of autoXchange. A little about Richard: He is experienced in various first of a kind start-up projects that required challenging the status quo. The latest venture autoXchange.io has been coined as a disruptor in the automotive industry, utilizing blockchain to address a real-world problem. Prior to setting up autoXchange.io, Richard was heavily involved in blockchain research and development projects in Berlin and sees decentralization as the key to challenging traditional data & organizational hierarchies bringing a new wave of business models and technology innovation not seen since the birth of the internet.

Interviewer: What is your background?

Richard: I completed a BSc in Computer Science and then did my Masters in Finance at CASS business school. After completing my BSc I was part of the graduate intake at British Telecom but decided after a few years that I wanted to branch out of corporate and I founded a Cloud startup called CnaSoft which raised $1.6m in its Series A and was sold within the same year. Having worked in the cloud area when it first started I decided to work at Rackspace to help build their markets outside of the US. I enjoyed working at Rackspace and even met my wife whilst working at the company. After a 4 years at Rackpace I decided I wanted to go back into startups and joined an IoT software company in Berlin as MD for EMEA & APAC, we raised $30m in total and became a preferred supplier to Cisco, Intel, DELL and AWS. In Germany I came up with the idea for autoXchange and decided to follow through and started to write the business plan towards the end of 2017 and invited my co founder to join me in early 2018, and the best is still to come :)

Interviewer: What made you found autoXchange?

Richard: The reason for autoXchange was simple. It was born out of frustration whilst trying to buy a car for my family. I couldn't believe the inefficiencies in sourcing, purchasing, and financing a vehicle and decided to do something about it.

Interviewer: How do you see your past experience and knowledge applying to autoXchange ?

Richard: This is my 3rd startup, having founded or worked for two successful startups previously I think I am in a very good position at autoXchange. As a company we have brought together an extremely good team of individuals who collectively are amazing.

Interviewer: What do you think is the biggest use case/market for autoXchange?

Richard: Having worked when Cloud first took off and then IOT I became familiar with the hype curve and what is necessary to turn that hype into an operational business that is able to monetise their core Value prop. The proposition is simple at autoXchange — A seller pays nothing to advertise. A buyer can make an offer, source financing, and carry out the purchase (Fiat/Crypto) in under 4mins all within the same app.
