I was happily just running around with no pressure to do anything in particular other than go to my waitressing job when I was scheduled. The job was simple and I just did my thing, inspired by the money.
But now I’m getting the Bitter Betties and I hate everyone that comes in, hate the kitchen, hate the stupid rules, and overall and hating on the hospitality business. And I know it’s coming.
I’m going to want to quit the job sooner than later.
And the only thing I can even fathom doing for money is writing. I’d rather write for money than go to an office and sit at a desk all day and have to be nice to people. I’d rather write for money than work in retail. And I would definitely rather write for money than keep going with the whole hospitality thing for the rest of my life.
There’s NO WAY I’m going to make it to retirement in the hospitality biz.
So, it’s time to get back to business.
I know I’ve talked about this before. Just a couple weeks ago really. So, I’m sure that’s not a surprise to anyone who is reading.
I’m planning to take writing for money back to the most simple of forms.
- Write a short story (under 10k)
- Edit short story
- Publish short story
- Send a link to my newsletter.
- Go back to 1.
Social media, ARC readers, bookfunnel, and all of that stuff — it just creates a lot of anxiety for me. Eventually, I might start working on it all again, but right now, I’m keeping it simple.
I have a series idea and I’m going to work on writing that. I actually have several series ideas but I’m going to make pen name A the main priority. If I have time for another short story in the week, I’ll do the second series for pen name B and just hoard them for a while and once I have a bunch I’ll start releasing them weekly.
I honestly don’t know how some writers have so much on their plate and manage it all. I’m in awe of them to be truthful. But I know that is not me. It’s not my path. I’ve tried it and it doesn’t work.
So, right now, pen name A is the focus.
You’ll find out what the pen name is when I start releasing books. I promise. Until then, I’m keeping it on the downlow.
Anyway, that’s it for now. I have some paying work that I need to do. Invoices to write. Receipts to send. Then I’m getting down to getting at least a couple thousand words down on the page before I have to go to work today.
BTW, Autumn’s Allusions is always free to read but there are stories on Medium under the paywall that you can read all you want of for only $5 a month. Besides my stories, you can read hundreds of other erotica authors who also publish on the site. No ads. Just lots of good short stories. And there’s even a mobile app. And if you go to your Medium account on a browser, you can listen to stories, too. It’s pretty cool really.
