Over 1.5 months, over 30 university teams came to compete in the AvaLaunch hackathon. We’re proud to announce three AvaLaunch winners and one honorable mention.

The last few months have been full of exciting collaborations and events for Avalanche. From testnets to token sales, integrations to incentives, it’s hard to find an area of our project and community that isn’t buzzing.

Today, we’re excited to share the results of AvaLaunch, our first hackathon. More than 30 teams from universities around the world joined in to build infrastructure tools, applications, and assets on Avalanche as part of the six-week program.

We chose to engage universities for our first hackathon to help the next generation of developers and entrepreneurs begin to make their mark on the world of decentralized technologies. As a university-backed project, we’re all-too-aware of the limitless potential waiting to be discovered if you give undergraduate students a platform to shine.

With the inaugural AvaLaunch hackathon behind us, we’re ecstatic to share the three winning projects, as well as an honorable mention:

First Place: Tava

Tava is an open-source platform for automating micro-mobility redistribution based on Avalanche and machine learning. They aim to make our future transports more available and sustainable. The goal is to have a platform that incentivizes mobility users to help solve the vehicle overflow problem (e.g., crowded dock stations).

Meet the team behind Tava from Seoul National University in Korea.

  • Sanghyeon Park
  • Junmo Lee
  • Yeonjae Koo
  • Yong-Hwan Yoo

Second Place: Avamatic

Avamatic is a payment gateway and HD wallet (a wallet that can generate multiple addresses from one seed phrase) that allows web and mobile application owners to receive payments using any asset issued on Avalanche. The application was built to achieve three objectives:

  1. Offer a solution where commercial and individual users can receive automatic payments on the Avalanche network
  2. Enables simple asset creation for users to send and receive payments with their own token
  3. Eliminate mandatory trust and costs associated with third-party processors

Meet the team behind Avamatic from Bahcesehir University in Turkey.

Third Place: AvaCash

AvaCash is a new wallet that aims to make decentralized payments as seamless and accessible for users with backgrounds of all expertise.

Meet the team behind AvaCash from Higher School of Economics in Russia.

Also, if you want to learn more about the project please feel free to check out the project’s GitHub page.

Honorable Mention: MeldX

MeldX provides entrepreneurs with a founder-friendly method of raising capital in exchange for (non-voting) equity, all while maintaining full control of their business. On the other side, retail investors are able to invest in small, private businesses with significantly less risk and diversify their portfolio.

Meet the team behind MeldX from the University of Michigan in the U.S.

Also, if you want to learn more about the project please feel free to check out their whitepaper and GitHub page.

Thank you to all of the participants for your hard work, and congratulations to the teams recognized for exceptional work. We look forward to seeing how many of you will help shape the future of decentralized systems, and hope many of you will do so with Avalanche

As Avalanche continues to grow as a project, we’re looking forward to continuing our engagement with the global developer community and discovering new decentralized innovations together. Stay tuned to Ava Labs and Avalanche social media channels for more updates on upcoming hackathons. If you are interested in building on the Avalanche platform, we recommend checking out the Avalanche-X grants.
