Below are a few milestones and announcements from the AVA Labs Team spanning the month of May.

1. Funding Round Announced

AVA Labs raised $6 million in February from notable names in the venture capital and cryptocurrency space. These include Andreessen Horowitz, Polychain, former Coinbase CTO Balaji Srinivasan, MetaStable, Initialized Capital, Naval Ravikant, and Ramtin Naimi of Abstract Ventures.

2. “Alpine Snowstorm” — Private Testnet

Alpine Snowstorm was announced during TOKEN SUMMIT 2019.
It supports:

Payments
Issuance of digital assets
Governance

We are focusing on partnerships and on-boarding application developers at the moment, and have been overwhelmed by requests.

3. Benchmarks

Avalanche private testnet benchmarks are approaching Visa levels. We are consistently seeing thousands of TPS at the base layer.

With 1000 nodes hosted on Amazon AWS — Avalanche benchmark peaked at 6500 TPS and stabilized at 5000 TPS.

4. Events

4.1 Token Summit — NY Blockchain Week 2019

Exactly one year ago in 2018, AVA Labs, represented by Prof. Emin Gün Sirer, attended Token Summit and made an announcement about a novel metastable consensus protocol and the plans for building Avalanche.

A year later on May 16th, 2019 Prof. Sirer returned to the Token Summit stage in order to share an update of our progress and reveal a more detailed vision of the AVA Platform, “A Platform of Platforms”.

4.2 San Francisco Meetup at Starfish

Kevin Sekniqi, Co-founder and Chief Protocol Architect, presented at Starfish, San Francisco alongside, Phillip Liu Jr., Head of Strategy and Operations.

4.3 Cryptocopia Live AMA — Scalable and Probabilistic Leaderless BFT Consensus through Metastability

Cryptocopia hosted a live AMA session with Prof. Sirer to discuss Avalanche.
