Epona, Protector of Horses and Guide to the Otherword

On the 18th of December, as the wheel of the year turns toward the slumber of winter, we gather to honor you, Blessed Epona. We decorate our homes and temples with fresh greenery and flowers, symbols of life’s persistence and your nurturing embrace, which promises the return of spring.

Warriors lay down their trophies of war at your feet, dedicating their victories to your glory and sovereignty. We know that true strength lies not in conquest but in the abundance you bestow upon all, without favor or distinction. This world was not created for the enjoyment of the few.

In the fields, where horses and mules toil, you are there, safeguarding them, ensuring our ability to plow the fields and to defend ourselves in times of war. You are the guardian of travelers, guiding those who journey with your wisdom and foresight.

With your three white horses, you are the shepherd of souls, leading them to the Otherworld with gentleness and compassion. You offer a comforting hand to those who must leave, and those who must stay behind.

Epona, on this day of your feast, we celebrate your abundance, your protection, and your guiding light. May our offerings and our hearts be pleasing to you, as we honor the bond between humanity and the divine. Blessed Epona, in your presence we find unity, strength, and the courage to face the cycle of life with compassion and open hearts.

Please listen to this wonderful tribute to Goddess Epona by Swiss Celtic metal band, Eluveitie — some of the most inspiring artists of our time.
