Nine Churches

This will be an ongoing series featuring Dominican built churches in the Philippines from the time of the friars’ arrival in 1587. I will start with the 9 churches.

Each church featured will have a short description pertinent to its construction and life thereafter.

The oil-on-canvass paintings featuring each church were commissioned to Filipino artist Eddie Sarmiento who unfortunately passed away this July 8, 2020.

These paintings may be viewed at Cafe Inggo 1587 located within the premises of Sto. Domingo Church, Quezon City, Philippines.

First Church:

SANTO DOMINGO CHURCH — INTRAMUROS, MANILA

The painting presents the fifth structure to have risen from the same spot since the Dominicans arrived in 1587. This last structure was designed by the famous architect Felix Roxas y Arroyo in the Neo-Gothic style.
