Avenger of the Month — Home Sweet Home

I remember clear as day meeting with Zac on a sunny afternoon in the original Inspire space for the first step of the interview process. It felt about 5 feet wide at a scalding temperature of 98 degrees early in August of 2014. Ten minutes into our meeting, I could tell that Inspire was something different, something that I never experienced before and something that I was urging to get a taste of. I could see the passion in Zac’s eyes as he spoke about the mission of the company and the values in which it was built on. Before I even had a chance to sell myself as a good fit for the position, I was already sold on Inspire. Thankfully, through the occasional beads of sweat and bad jokes I’m sure, I was able to make a good enough impression on Zac and the rest of the Inspire team at the time to have the opportunity to become an Avenger.

At 23, very raw and lacking the insight that I have now I truly had no idea what it meant to work at a “startup” other than it was something exciting to talk about with family and friends. I started initially as an Inside Sales Specialist, or at the time a “Member Sales and Loyalty Specialist” and I very quickly learned what working for a “startup” meant. On the second day in the office and Zac soon traveling out of town, it was go time. He handed me the same script that I wrote during the interview process and followed it up with some words of encouragement straight from Texas…”giddy up!”. It was at that moment that I knew that coming to work for Inspire was one of the best choices that I have ever made. I understood that it was going to be a grind day in and day out but knew that my opinion, ideas, and morals would all be valued on a daily basis. I would have the ability to own something fully from the start, and for that I was incredibly grateful.

Prior to Inspire, I held other sales positions in different fields and even had previous retail energy experience as a canvasser, but I truly never felt really challenged until I arrived at 2424 East York. Over the course of the last 20 months, I have gained more experience and wisdom both professionally and personally than I ever had with any company prior and it something that I will value for the rest of my career. Inspire energy has become a home to me. It challenges me to get better each and every single day and the employees that make up its culture, provide the support and encouragement to do so.

Having the honor of being named Avenger of the Month for being a “Student” is a testament to those I work around and with on a daily basis. It is very easy to become a good student when you are constantly working with great teachers. I have had the true privilege to work for managers and with employees that I know not only care about my career development at Inspire, but also genuinely care about my well-being outside of work, which is incredibly unique. Seeing what this company and team avengers has evolved into from September of 2014 until now, and to see where we are going is an incredibly humbling experience. I could not be more proud to work with a team made up of such exceptional individuals that push and support each other day in and day out, and I could not be more honored to of had the pleasure of being named Avenger of the Month by that same group.
