Hermaphrodites? Not quite.

Last year during February, former NBA star Dwyane Wade revealed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that his child, 12 years old at the time, identified as a transgender girl. Zaya Wade, formerly named Zion, also wished to be addressed with female pronouns (i.e., she/her). This news led to much dialogue online, with some congratulating Zaya’s newfound identity while others found it inappropriate.
