The Avvir team is digging our new work space. It’s been a few weeks since we’ve moved and we are already experiencing the benefits of being part of URBAN-X ’s program for startup companies.

ADO, the Urban-X Space

The URBAN-X Accelerator Program

In case you weren’t aware, URBAN-X chose Avvir (and six other companies) from over 400 applicants to participate in their accelerator program. Urban-X is built to help start ups that are creating disruptive and scalable solutions across sectors such as real estate and construction, infrastructure, mobility, food, water, energy and more. It was launched by MINI in 2016 to support startups working to improve city life.

As part of the URBAN-X accelerator, Avvir is participating in a rigorous 5-month program to help develop our business and bring our solutions to the market. Being a part of the program offers Avvir many benefits including access to amazing mentors, a great workspace, and access to interesting and fun hardware.

Recently URBAN-X put together a week of classes and demos to help each participating start up. Raffi Holzer, Avvir’s CEO, said of the classes, “Urban-X has done a phenomenal job of putting together programming that is deeply valuable to our entire company. We particularly enjoyed the session on company culture. We knew how important culture was to a company but not necessarily how to go about creating it intentionally. That session was a big help in that direction.”

Adrian Lin, a designer at Avvir, attended many of the Urban X classes. He said, “The workshops helped me brush up on things I’d learned in the past but will be using in my design role here at Avvir.”

Perks of our new Workspace & Neighborhood

Our new workspace is located in the A/D/O building, a 23,000 square foot former warehouse in Greenpoint, Brooklyn’s Industrial Business Zone. A/D/O stands for Amalgamated Drawing Office and the building has been converted into a space for creative exchange.

The workspace also comes with some fun perks like access to a 3D printer. Raffi notes, “While we aren’t a hardware company, the fact that we have a woodshop and various machining tools available to us is an amazing perk from a creative standpoint.”

Adrian comments, “I like the wide-open space here, as it seems to foster a good environment for creativity and design. The neighborhood itself also has a nice, industrial and not super commercialized feel, just the type of neighborhood you envision when you think of small creative startups and studios.”

Drop by if you are in our new neighborhood!

About Avvir

Avvir scans construction sites regularly using laser scanners. Our algorithm compares the scans to the building plans to measure progress, detect defects, and determine if progress is on schedule. By automating the processes around data collection, visualization, and analysis, we can provide real time insights into the state of a project.
