Don’t take advice from people with bad breath.

It’s a signal of much more than you think.

So, someone has to say it…

I often provide guidance to those I mentor on how to filter through a lot of advice — what to take as a grain of salt and what to apply to life. I prefer to take advice from people who inspire me. It doesn’t necessarily have to be from someone “doing better” than me either because I believe there’s something to learn from everyone. I do enjoy advice from people thriving in a specific area of life that I want to grow in.

Bad breath though? That’s a signal of something a little more sinister.

Let’s go deep:

1) If someone has bad breath UNKNOWINGLY, there’s a clear lack of self awareness. If someone doesn’t know themselves enough to be aware of their own body odors then they likely aren’t approaching other areas of life with care.

2) If someone has bad breath KNOWINGLY, there’s self awareness but a clear disregard for themselves and others — this is much worse than reason 1.

3) Bad breath can be a sign of a bad diet and thus, bad decision making — a bad diet shows lack of MODERATION and too much INDULGENCE.

At the end of the day, most advice I take as a grain of salt because everyone is truly on their own unique journey and the answer is most often found within if you’re willing to do the digging.

There are instances where bad breath caused by an unavoidable or medical issue — this is not an instance I am commenting on.
