In celebration of Star Wars Day, May the Fourth, we look back over the 7-film collection to highlight examples of how AR helped the force win over the dark side.

1. “Help Me Obi-Wan” — Princess Leia’s cry for help

One of the most iconic scenes from the entire Star Wars series, R2-D2 plays a holographic message from Princess Leia “Help me Obi-wan, you’re my only hope” in Star Wars IV: A New Hope.

2. “Let the Wookie Win” — Dejarik Chess Game

C-3PO and Chewbacca play a game of Dejarik, a popular holographic game where the chess pieces are dangerous-looking species, in Star Wars IV: A New Hope. When Han Salo warns that Wookiees sometimes pull people’s arms out in frustration when playing the game, C-3PO tells R2-D2 “I suggest a new strategy. Let the Wookiee win.

3. “It’s true. All of it. The dark side, the Jedi, they’re real.” —BB-8’s map

One of the most magical scenes of Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens is when BB-8 shows Rey, Finn and Han Solo the map he had been carrying of Luke Skywalker’s whereabouts where Solo tells Rey and Finn, “It’s true. All of it. The dark side, the Jedi, they’re real.”

4. “Wipe them out. All of them” — Darth Sidious’ order

When Darth Sidious learns of the new alliance between Queen Amidala and the Naboo soldiers, he orders Nute Gunray to “Wipe them out. All of them” as a telepresence hologram riding on a moving robot in Star Wars 1: The Phantom Menace.

5. “Even you, master of the Knights of Ren, have never faced such a test.” — Snoke’s reluctance

Supreme Leader Snoke expresses his concern for Kylo Ren’s achilles heel — his family — in a scene in Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens where Ren and Snoke confirm BB-8’s location on board the Millennium Falcon with Ren’s father, Han Solo. “Even you, master of the Knights of Ren, have never faced such a test.”

6. “The Emperor has made a critical error and the time for our attack is now” — Mon Mothma’s briefing

Rebel Alliance leader Mon Mothma briefs the troops on the existence of a new battle station in Star Wars IV: Return of the Jedi and lets them know that “The Emperor has made a critical error and the time for our attack is now” as the weapons of the Death Star were not yet operational leaving the battle station vulnerable for attack.

7. “The capture of General Grievous will end this war” — Remote council meeting from the Battle of Kashyyyk

Wookiee’s Chewbacca and Tarfful witness Yoda’s remote Jedi council meeting as the council explains strategy on how to end the Battle of Kashyyyk in Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith and Yoda stresses “The capture of General Grievous will end this war”.

8. “Take a seat young Skywalker” — Anakin joins the council

Mace Windu tells Anakin Skywalker to “Take a seat” after his outburst in front of the Jedi Council in Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith when he learned that he would be joining the council but not as a master.

9. “There is a great disturbance in the force” — The Emperor’s new enemy

In Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back, the Emperor and Darth Vadar discuss “a great disturbance in the force” as they identify Luke Skywalker as their new enemy.

10. “I will take the designs with me” — the birth of the Death Star

Archduke Poggle the Lesser gives Count Dooku the plans to a secret Geonosian project during the Battle of Geonosis. Dooku tells Poggle that he “will take the designs” to Darth Sidious. These designs later become the Death Star.
