‘404 Page not found’ for historically considered as a page that represents moments of frustration for the user and sometimes even an element of shame for the business. In the past, it also used to be the least designed for engagement and almost all the time most businesses end up just saying ‘sorry’!. Probably for lack of better solutions, I guess.

One of the memes made for TravelTriangle.com’s 404-page design.

At the same time, a page not found scenario is not something one can completely get rid of. Then why not make it interesting or even give your users a reason to smile? In fact, taking inspiration from many who are making these pages an absolute playground of their creativity, we at TravelTriangle made an attempt to reimagine the ‘404- Page not found’.

These pages are designed to be in contrast with the usual visual language of the brand to leave no room for confusion with the current product flows. Keeping the attention spans of the people in mind at such online platforms, the idea we explored is in the lines of social media memes. Memes usually work to those who are well aware of the premise, hence the context is important to appreciate the pun. In this case, it is for those people who are planning their holidays with TravelTriangle and if 404 comes up when something goes wrong- and all we have is a few seconds to cheer them up and put right back into a pleasant holiday shopping experience- and not allow them to leave on a tetchy-grumpy-huffy note.
