Before I discuss the Cyber Range Smart-City Partnership initiative, let me provide a quick call-to-action. After that I’ll provide a recap for new readers…

The AWS “City on A Cloud” application is due by 11/8/2019 — if you understand the value of a Cyber Range then you need to take immediate action below.

Register as a student, educator, business sponsor, or consultant using the provided FormAssembly form below. If you are a student, use your EDU address. This helps establish a direct network of school ambassadors & partners.

CALL-TO-ACTION

All Students, Educators, Business sponsors, mentors, & consultants looking to Make a Difference can to sign-up to support this proposal.

WHEN the Cyber Range ‘City-on-a-Cloud’ proposal is selected as a winner, I plan to provide the award the first ‘Cyber Warrior’ scholarship — a stipend to support educational costs in exchange for scholarship-in-action & hands-on experience with some of the world’s best tooling, processes, and procedures..

Having to figure out who the lucky person is would be an awesome problem for me to solve next! So sign up and show Amazon how much you support this idea.

Cyber Range Recap

This SecDevOps@Cuse Cyber Range project is transforming the CyberSecurity Community. In approximately 1 month, I will be providing a technical demo to the BlackHat Europe Arsenal.

The Path to Success…

  • 9 Months ago, the #AWS-based Cyber Range project was published to GitHub.
  • 4 months later, in June of 2019, Tenable sponsored the initial release to the BSides London Security Community.
  • If you were not at BSides London, I’d suggest watching the YouTube recording outlining an introduction of the technologies & some of the inner-workings of the codebase. Note: I have refactored a bit since then.
  • 2 Months ago, I base-lined then published a medium post outlining the Post-BlackHat Vegas updates in the v2 release. Then I submitted this project to the BlackHat Arsenal.

Over the next few weeks I have a lot of late-nights ahead of me. It is currently 1:45am as I type this post outlining the need to have ALL collaborators & sponsors step forward to support the next phase of evolution sooner than later.

The Next Phase

By now, you should have filled out the Cyber Range — ‘City on a Cloud’ Initiative Sign-Up Form

The AWS City-on-the-Cloud Academic Alliance Initiative will create an awesome partnership between the best of the best in the industries we support.

The primary goal of the next phase of this project seeks to obtain funding, create a Cyber Warrior Research Assistant initiative, build a curriculum to engage students at all levels, build user interfaces to improve the ease-of-use, and write technical documentation.

For those less technical looking to break into the field, we have a strong need for a group of social “keyboard” warriors who can promote effective communication of win’s & losses, help us recruit, identify at risk communities to serve, and expand the project’s positive influence across the world.

Motivational speakers like Gary Vaynerchuk & Eric Thomas preach about success, grinding, and most importantly embracing the process (aka losses).

Gaining Experience

Experience matters — whether it be in school-related projects (K-12, UnderGrad/Grad/Doctorate) or more hands-on informal learning & enterprise projects.

The goal is to help Research Assistants everyone foundational knowledge * real-world business experience by creating a shared service model where the project provides ad-hoc non-critical support to its business sponsors - from Non-profits to Schools to Government Organizations & Fortune 10 Enterprises.

I can’t stress how important it is to complement foundational academic knowledge w/ hands-on experiences. Yet, throwing unknowledgable people & money at an issue blindly will not lead us to success.

Speaking openly about our collective losses will make us stronger — both individually, collectively as a group, and as a project initiative. We will embrace the Agile methodology, perform retrospectives, and continuously improve in hopes of achieving all goals — personal and project.

Have you signed up to support the Cyber Range — ‘City on a Cloud’ Initiative?
