It was a memorable and unforgettable experience on March 25, 2023, for the leaders and all participants who were seated in their comfort zones to watch, listen, and learn from AWS security specialists and solutions architects unleashing power-packed and informative sessions about AWS security tools (existing and newly released) during the User Group AWS reInvent reCap event 2023.

What is the AWS reInvent Program?

Each year, thousands of cloud computing fans convene in Las Vegas for the Amazon Web Services (AWS) re:Invent cloud conference. The conference features leader keynotes, new service announcements, fun, and inspiration.

re:Invent is an opportunity to learn directly from AWS cloud computing experts. You can learn more about re:Invent 2022 here. You can also get ready for "re:Invent 2023" by subscribing to it now.

Why reCap Event?

Each year, AWS hosts AWS re:Invent, a global cloud computing conference, covering everything from AWS core services to deep dives into the latest new AWS services and innovations announced at the event. There are hundreds of sessions and launches presented at the conference, and it can be overwhelming to find the time to catch up with everything in detail.

The reCap event, which took place yesterday, comes after the re:Invent program. The event aimed to streamline hundreds of sessions and launches presented during 2022 re:Invent program by bringing content and information about new product announcements closer to user group members.

About the reCap Event 2023

Specific to the AWS Cloud Security User Group, this year’s AWS re:Invent re:Cap event focused on topics related to AWS security and identity, IAM, VPC, machine learning, and data protection to help drive home content from numerous infosec sessions that were featured in the re:Invent program in 2022.

Take a look at the schedule below:

The event was a virtual one. It was streamed directly to the User Group YouTube channel. Did you miss the live-streaming session? If yes, watch the recording here.

Event Schedules, Moderators, Speakers and their Sessions

The event started with a welcome and introduction led by Imoh Etuk, an AWS community builder and user group leader.

Welcome and Introduction

The event had 3 moderators, 5 speakers, and a keynote session followed by 4 quiz sessions.

The keynote was given by an AWS Solution Architect, Ademola Sanusi. He took the audience through all the new and existing security-related tools that were announced during the re:Invent 2022 program and how helpful these tools could be to their AWS Cloud environment.

AWS Security and Compliance

The first session was taken by CJ Okpala, a cloud architect and AWS Community Builder. His session covered data protection and the various policies that could be put in place to ensure data security on the AWS Cloud.

Data protection policies

The second session focused on cyber threat intelligence using machine learning (ML) and it was led by Syed Rehan, a Sr. Global Developer Evangelist at AWS.

The third session was about harnessing the power of Amazon VPC Lattice for networking and security, led by Stephen Sennett, an AWS Community Builder and content author.

Building a Modern Network

The fourth session was on assessing S3 from an EC2 instance using the IAM role, a practical session led by Minal Vaishnav, an AWS Enthusiast and Trainer.

Backend Team

The event wouldn’t have been successful without the effort, hard work, and dedication put in by the social media, graphics, and registration. This team did an amazing job by constantly creating awareness through content to promote the event on social media. This team, which is led by Blessing Ogechi Nwojiji consists of Abiodun ‘Linkon’ Eniola, an AWS Community Builder, and the lead graphics team, Anne Usang, Ukeme Eseme, Adeola Ogunkola and numerous others.

Lastly, what’s next for the user group is that the leaders have already designed security study sessions that will run from April to May 30th, 2023.

Please follow our online handles for updates on the upcoming study series and other events.
