What it is and how it works…

The first time I heard about the AWS Blackbelt Program was while I asking myself about the different possibilities for personal accreditation and certification level provided by AWS.

While I already got my AWS Professional Solution Architect certification, the Well Architected Reviewer accreditation, AWS Immersion Day trainer and a lot more it was really interesting to see the external visibility of the AWS Ambassador Program. Due to the fact that public content was a difficult topic within MHP I was not able to apply for the Ambassador Program yet.

During another Meeting AWS asked me if I would be interested to join the three weeks AWS Migration Blackbelt pilot track for EMEA. Which is a personal accreditation for AWS partner employees to showcase in-depth knowledge about specific workloads.

The track is based on different really interesting und usefull learing modules to really understand the migration process in depth. Followed by a migration quiz and an assessment with one of the migration track leads.

Small spoiler… my complete team and I passed

MHP AWS Migration Approach

The decomposition for the migration journey into the three different phases “Assess”, “Mobilize” and “Migrate and Modernize” allows for an intelligent approach to the planning the Project of the Cloud Migration, of course, based on multitude of AWS and MHP Best practices as accelerators based on past successful Cloud Migration Journeys.

AWS was testing the ability of individuals for assessing the organizational readiness, setting up business cases for change, preparing the organizational structure including the AWS landing zones and the “Cloud Center of Excellence” to execute the migration at scale during an assessment under real life conditions in addition to the already mentioned knowledge .

Helping AWS Customers with Funding

The founding possibilities like Migration Acceleration Program (MAP) or Optimization Licence Assessment (OLA) was one specific knowledge area which is intended to lower the boundaries for the Cloud Migration and helping customers to speed up their journey. It is available in cooperation with AWS according to predefined milestones and exclusively over MAP eligible AWS Partners, such as MHP. Depending on details of each particular case, it can cover different parts of costs of the initial scary, migration-deal-breaker equation. It might finance range of initial activities on building the trust in cloud and the journey itself, leading to the business case and detail migration planning (Assess and Mobilize Phases). Once migration is on the run MAP can help dump initial costs, trough pratially financing infrastructure costs — and for specific workloads (Windows, SAP…) even more.

Next steps for the professional career

I think joining this journey was a useful supplement for the already gained AWS knowledge to provide a comfortable and pleasant Cloud Migration Journey to customers including an accreditation based on the quality guideslines of AWS.

Contact me to get further information if you want to know more, assess a particular case, imagine together the best possible path to the cloud and show it is not just a dream — we already witnessed the reality of that dream.
