10 Ways

If you have a little room, then you can have a lot of options

From living with the latest re-wiring

My personal conclusions are broadly:

JEM style wiring which combines individual coils of humbuckers with single coils is a nice trick, but does not to my ears, yield a particularly drastic or impressive change in voicing, which is often what we want from a pickup selector.
Also, blend switches require real estate on the guitar and can be awkward to use in a live context.

Finally, the pickups are often combined in parallel, and there is a law of diminishing returns as pickups are combined in this way — we’ll see this in the results: 2 pickups in parallel are quite similar to 3 pickups in parallel, as the bandwidth of the pickups response is widened as resonant peaks flattened in both configurations and the degree of this is less important to the ear as its presence, IMHO.

The 10-way has a lot of options, but encompasses the blend switch and also offers series combinations: given 2 single coils the output and resonance of a fairly hefty humbucker.

It was getting out of hand…

Removing the old selector after 30 plus years and still works a treat!
If you’re going to put in this replacement, it would be embarrassing to overlook the ground point.
Just before being crammed / pressed into place…

Sadly, this is the kind of test that cannot be done with a looper, so here is a very repetitive piece of music.
Hopefully this gives you the flavour.

Here are all the sounds.
