Citizen Science — Plectrums
There is a *lot* talked about these…
What you use to pick the guitar
… has always been a matter of controversy / debate.
So, let’s try to generate some facts!
Experimental setup
- Same person
- Same guitar
- Same control test between picks
I am happy to claim the audio capture is stable enough.
It seems the round tips produce a variety of brighter tones, and the rest of the picks are — frankly, surprisingly consistent.
Conclusions
1. Just don’t sweat the small stuff: on these results, 60% of picks chosen **at random** will sound the same.
2. For strumming, there might just be a pick that will achieve that sparkly tone for 50 pence, instead of buying a thousand pound microphone.
