Axie Infinity’s Axie Arena Epic Era drew to a close after a near two week stretch following the Rare Era of the competition.

Seven out of the top ten slots were taken up by members of QU3ST or YGG as the era ended last February 1. Zannzaki of METAT8/PZL, Ralo of Puzzle, and GG of MVP were the only players in the top 10 that were not from the two guilds. PlusOne, Staz, and Zeliaser represented YGG in the top ten, while Rare Era champion, MeatValue, FF Plz, prdyz, and Wargos raised QU3ST’s flag. FF Plz finished the era on top with a total of 2069 stars, taking home a total of 1,012,500 mAXS just for that era.

“The team I used to win the Epic Era couldn’t get past top 500 in the Rare Era. I thought it was bad initially but it really came to life with retains and all the right runes,” FF Plz told the Axie Archive. “It wasn’t until I was messing around with my teammates and looking to try something new for upcoming tournaments that I realized how powerful it was. The right runes, charms and a few part changes can turn a top 1000 team into a rank 1 team.”

FF Plz team that took the top spot was made out of an Aqua, Dawn, and Dusk axie that utilized a curse control deck, mostly of Swirls and Pigeon Posts to force players having no useful cards to draw for multiple rounds. It will be interesting to see if that same strategy will remain an option come the Mystic Era.

“What I am looking forward to most in the mystic era is how mystic runes will play a role. I am not super stoked on mystic charms as for the pp cost is really high, but I think some really interesting things can be made,” FF Plz sharing his insight on the Mystic Era. “People don’t focus enough on how important PP is and I think people are really going to have to focus up on that if they want to build the right team this era. I am super interested to see how various mystic runes will be combined with others to maximize the potential of certain deck types. Some epic runes are really strong as well so I am sure some of those will be thrown into the mix as well.”

Sky Mavis introduced another new mechanic for the season that focused on crafting runes and charms, Mystic Moments. The new mechanic assures the player a sure Mystic item after a certain number of Master-Ronin crafting. Additionally, the team opted to reduce the time it took to mint from seven days to three, making runes and charms populate the market faster. So far, season two of Axie Infnity: Origin’s Axie Arena has proven to be more diverse than the first season, which saw only a few builds enter the leaderboards. The Runes and Charms market has also been more affordable this season compared to the past. The Era mechanic also adds another level of strategy for players and incentivizes the community to play throughout the season.

“My experience in season 2 has been extremely positive. As a theory crafter and breeder last season I felt horribly suffocated. I spend an insane amount of $ETH to breed different types of metas and non of it mattered because MeatValue made the stop light team (beast, plant, bug) and it countered every single deck in the game,” FF Plz recalled about season 1. “The eras are awesome, perfect, loooove them. Makes the games so much fun because everyday I look forward to and I always have something to look forward to next week. I have to think ahead, breed ahead, buy ahead. Then am rewarded for the fruits of my labor in a short period. Each era is so different and unique. I was happy to see tons of different team types, the competition will be much more steep next season for each era I am sure of that!”
