Team Beast and Team Aqua ready to play for charity

Manila, Philippines — Pro players and Axie Streamers, lead by SpamAndRice and Patricio, represented two Axie Classes, Beast and Aqua, in a charity basketball game titled Axie Christmas Basketball Cup.

Held last December 10 at the Lourdes School of Quezon City, the Axie Christmas Basketball Cup was sponsored by Axie Infinity CoFounder, Jeffrey Zirlin. A total prize pool of P30,000 will be donated to charity through this event. CaraCute, Mccoy Gaming, Boarknock and Kapitan are among the few that will help Team Spam achieve victory, while Team Patricio parades a lineup that includes Hezelya, Wam, Overxyze, and VMG.

“This is going to be so fun,” SpamAndRice shared prior to the start of the match. “I’m used to competing with everyone in [the Arena]. So now playing in real life with them in a real sport is going to be really fun. They’re all my friends and I can’t wait to have a blast. What other game has done something like this?”

Spam represented the Beast Axie class, while Patrticio was the captain for team Aqua. Nabz, WildTV, Sir Alvon, Disiboii, Yajplays, Chillchilax, and Stefan round out Spam’s Beast team. Boss Khan, Fifi, Lunatic, ZR10, Nitsuga, Jong, and Montblack complete Patricio’s Aqua lineup.

Team Aqua got off to a hot start with Patricio and VMG scoring 4 points each to give them an early lead in the first period. But a balanced effort coming from Team Beast and heroic scoring from Yajplays late in the quarter got them within two after the first ten minutes.

That seemed to be the theme of the first half as Team Aqua closed out the second chapter with a similar two point lead despite an 8 point outburst from Team Beast’s Stefan TV during the quarter.

Patricio took over in the second half as he scored 14 of his game high 22 points in the final twenty minutes to lead the charge for Team Aqua. Team Beast rallied behind another balanced effort, with almost every member scoring at least one point to take a brief four point lead in the fourth quarter.

With a narrow two point lead in the final seconds of the game, Team Beast opted to go to Sir Alvon to take a three pointer to try and win the game. However, the shot didn’t go through the net and Team Aqua escaped with a narrow 59-57 win.

“I feel like everyone enjoyed during the game,” Patricio said in a mix of English and Tagalog. “Since it is also a gathering of Axie creators, we get to spend some good quality time with each other even just for a few hours. Despite this, the game did become competitive and it showed in the close scoring that we had. Everyone was having fun and cheering for their respective teams.”

At the end of the day, everyone was a winner as they were able to enjoy a good game with great company while donating money for a good cause. Some players even talked about expanding the match to more sports so other members of the community can get involved.

“I don’t speak for everybody else but I’m sure that there are other creators that wanted to join but were not given the chance for one reason or another,” Patricio added. “I look forward to the next one where more Lunacians can join, whether they are a large or small contributor.”

Quarter Scores: 15–13, 31–29, 49–47, 59–57
